READING INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
Springboro Intermediate


SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provides daily, structured literacy reading intervention instruction to assigned students; prepares daily lesson plans; supervises student participation in curricular, co-curricular, and related activities. Reports to the building principal.


DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
1. Provides daily, structured literacy reading intervention instruction to assigned students; prepares daily lesson plans utilizing board-adopted reading intervention materials; utilizes research-based teaching strategies and materials; develops critical thinking skills, and promotes literacy growth.
2. Administers state and district level assessments, as required, throughout the year.
3. Administers early literacy benchmark assessments (ie: DIBELs, ORF).
4. Collaborates with other reading intervention teachers, classroom teachers, principals, and district administration to form and schedule reading intervention classes.
5. Evaluates assigned students with on-going formative and summative assessments to diagnose reading difficulties; to target reading interventions; and to evaluate for student progress throughout the program, i.e. benchmark assessments, DIBELs, Decoding and Encoding surveys. Makes informed decisions concerning reading instruction based upon assessment data.
6. Collaborates with building and district administrators to plan and implement effective, research-based strategies in literacy instruction. Serves as a teacher resource for effective, research-based literacy practices.
7. Collaborates with classroom teachers to provide intervention literacy instruction to at-risk students that support the classroom teacher's instruction and Common Core State Standards in the English Language Arts.
8. Schedules and confers with parents periodically. Confers with school personnel (e.g., principal, teachers, counselor, psychologist, supervisors, etc.) as necessary.
9. Provides on-going appropriate written and verbal feedback of student progress to students, parents, and classroom teachers.
10. Participates in professional development activities, including in-services, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
11. Serves on education related committees (e.g., curriculum, course of study, textbook, etc.).
12. Inventories assigned facility areas and provides inventory data to the building principal's office. Requisitions supplies, materials, and equipment as needed.
13. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
14. Performs required supplemental duties (e.g., takes attendance, grade card reporting, interim reports, book orders, supply orders, bulletin boards, etc.).
15. Supervises and disciplines students (e.g., classroom, hallways, restrooms, lunchroom, assemblies, bus duty, etc.) following the student discipline code.
16. Participates in and helps supervise emergency preparedness drills (e.g., tornado, fire, etc.).
17. Participates in co-curricular and school community activities.
18. Performs other duties required in job description and as assigned by supervisor.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree or advanced degree
2. Valid Ohio teaching certification/license with Reading Endorsement
3. Orton Gillingham training preferred.
4. Must pass a criminal background check.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Effective Date: 2026/2027 school year
2. Length of Employment: One year limited contract
3. Salary and Fringe Benefits: Based on the current negotiated agreement.
