Job Description
Responsibilities
This role will repair and maintain all steam electric generating plant mechanical systems and associated auxiliary systems and equipment for the production of continuous, reliable electric energy under the direction and review of a maintenance supervisor.
Responsibilities
• Repair, troubleshoot, overhaul, and maintain equipment, such as turbines, boilers, pumps, cooling towers, condensers, scrubber, coal pulverizing system, coal and ash handling equipment and all other associated systems and equipment to maintain efficient plant production of electrical energy.
• Perform millwright functions in setting up, aligning, balancing, and testing various machinery and equipment, such as turbines, pumps, shafts, bearings, gearboxes, and valves.
• Work with precision tools and instruments within close tolerances to maintain precision alignment and balance which is critical for maximum life and performance of machinery and equipment.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on all assigned machinery and equipment and check equipment for wear and possible down time to prevent major problems and emergency shut downs.
• Work from blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and drawings to set up, lay out, build or repair machinery or equipment.
• May consult with vendors or manufacturing representatives to research mechanical problems and/or order parts. - Perform certified welding of both ferrous and nonferrous materials such in compliance with code requirements, as well as weld all types of equipment in maintaining efficient plant operation.
• Operate machines such as lathes, mills, shaper, drill press, grinders, power saws, and burners in repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining power plant machinery and equipment.
• Perform lay out work and build or fabricate parts to close tolerances.
• Repair and maintain plant and office facilities such as plumbing systems, fixtures, fans, heaters, furnaces and air conditioning system to maintain a comfortable and healthy work environment.
• Operate trucks, cranes, back hoes, forklifts, and other mobile equipment in the process of overhauling, repairing, and maintaining plant equipment and machinery.
• Direct, train, and teach apprentices in the skills of mechanics.
• Direct helpers as assigned by supervision.
• Keep records such as daily work reports, parts used, equipment condition reports, material requisitions, safety reports and others as required by supervision.
• Perform other mechanical duties as assigned by supervision. Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without an accommodation.
• Must know and understand repair techniques in the use of materials such as fiberglass, rubber, plastics and other materials as are commonly used in power plant construction and/or equipment.
• Will be required to certify on special plant equipment to meet state and federal requirements with respect to welding and/or valve repair. Perform other mechanical duties as assigned by supervision.
• Travel is required to other plants for safety repairs.
