Job Description
The Assistant Executive Director supports the Executive Director in leading daily operations of a senior living community. This role helps oversee staff, resident services, financial performance, compliance, and overall community success.
The AED is a hands-on leader who ensures the community runs smoothly, delivers high-quality resident care, and meets financial and operational goals. In the absence of the Executive Director, the AED assumes full responsibility for community operations.
This position is also designed as a leadership development role for individuals preparing to become an Executive Director.
Responsibilities
- Assist in leading daily operations of the community across all departments
- Support employee hiring, on-boarding, training, and performance management
- Assist with payroll, HR functions, and employee relations
- Help monitor budgets, financial reporting, and operational performance
- Participate in resident, family, and staff meetings
- Support occupancy, sales, and marketing efforts to achieve community goals
- Help ensure compliance with all state, federal, and company regulations
- Assist in resolving resident and family concerns in a professional manner
- Support safety programs, emergency preparedness, and risk management efforts
- Participate in quality assurance, care coordination, and resident service meetings
- Assist with capital projects, vendors, and facility improvements as needed
- Serve as acting Executive Director in their absence
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred (or equivalent leadership experience)
- 2+ years of leadership or management experience, preferably in senior living or healthcare
- Experience in HR, payroll, and operational management required
- Strong financial and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Must be dependable, flexible, and a strong problem solver
- Passion for working with seniors and supporting a resident-centered culture
