Overview

Thompson Hospitality Facilities is seeking a dependable and motivated Lawn Crew Lead to oversee and support campus grounds maintenance operations at Lincoln University. The Lawn Crew Lead is responsible for leading daily landscaping and lawn care activities to ensure campus grounds remain clean, attractive, safe, and well-maintained for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This position requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, knowledge of landscaping equipment, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions


Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise lawn care and grounds crew staff in daily landscaping and grounds maintenance operations
  • Perform and oversee mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, mulching, weeding, pruning, and general grounds upkeep
  • Operate and maintain landscaping equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, and other grounds equipment
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping projects including leaf removal, planting, snow removal, and irrigation support as needed
  • Inspect campus grounds regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or landscape concerns
  • Ensure grounds and exterior campus spaces remain clean, safe, and visually appealing
  • Train team members on proper equipment operation, safety procedures, and grounds maintenance standards
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of landscaping supplies, fuel, tools, and equipment
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety regulations and company standards
  • Assist with campus event setup, exterior cleanup, and emergency weather response as needed
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding project status and operational needs

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of landscaping, groundskeeping, or lawn maintenance experience required
  • Previous leadership or crew lead experience preferred
  • Experience operating commercial landscaping and lawn care equipment required
  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance techniques, plant care, and seasonal landscaping operations
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality required
  • Valid driver’s license preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to operate commercial landscaping and lawn care equipment safely and effectively
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks including mowing, trimming, raking, digging, and lifting
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate tools, machinery, and equipment safely
  • Ability to hear and respond to equipment sounds, verbal instructions, and safety warnings
  • Visual ability to identify landscaping issues, hazards, and equipment concerns

Work Environment

  • Outdoor college campus environment at Lincoln University
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, pollen, noise, fuel, and landscaping chemicals
  • Fast-paced work environment with frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and visitors
  • May require early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency weather response support
  • Work responsibilities may involve walking long distances across campus grounds and operating heavy equipment
