Overview
In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health has more than 49,000 members including students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. With over 50 years of service to the Yale community, our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.
We are currently seeking an experienced medical assistant to join the department of Acute Care. The department provides care in a patient-centered environment and is a busy department at Yale Health. The Medical Assistant will provide care to patients as part of a collaborative and supportive team. They will prepare patients for examinations, provide routing information related to medical treatments and procedures, measure and record vital signs, collect and label specimens, perform all CLIA-waived/POCT testing; assist clinical staff with procedures, treatments and exams, maintain exam rooms, monitor supplies, stock and equipment; as well as administrative tasks associated with patient encounters.

Schedule: Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hrs, 8 am -4 pm rotating weekly schedule. Weekends: every 3rd weekend. Early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays/recess periods may also be required.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Experience as a medical assistant in an acute care / urgent care setting.
2. Proficiency in Point of Care Testing (POCT) including CLIA-waived testing.
3. Demonstrated ability to perform in stressful situations. Flexibility and willingness to move easily between tasks.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive, respectful relationships with co-workers and a diverse population.
5. Well-developed critical thinking skills and the ability to use sound independent judgment.
6. Proficiency in the use of an EMR or clinical scheduling system.
7. Excellent attendance, punctuality and reliability, as attested by references.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Experience with set-up and assisting with minor surgical procedures using sterile technique; previous experience as a medical assistant in an Acute Care setting; proficiency in Epic.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Maintains comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean environment. 2. Prepares patients for examinations. Provides routine information related to medical treatments and procedures. 3. Measures and records vital signs. Collects specimens. Prepares examining rooms. Selects and lays out medical supplies. 4. Maintains medical equipment. Records and reports patient information. Retrieves laboratory test results and patient files. 5. Escorts patients and visitors. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 6. Performs clerical functions related to medical activities.
Required Education and Experience
Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Registry of Medical Assistants (or ability to get certification/registration within 90 days of employment).

Health Requirements
This role is a healthcare worker position. Healthcare workers (HCW) are defined as university employees working a healthcare setting who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients, human research subjects or infectious materials including body substance, contaminated medical supplies, devices and equipment, surfaces, or air. HCW have specific health requirements that must be met prior to starting work, including MMR vaccine or immunity, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or immunity, TB screening, COVID vaccine according to University policy, hepatitis B vaccine or immunity, and annual flu vaccination.
