Job Description

Canley Vale High School is a proud aspirational comprehensive high school that caters for the academic, social and emotional needs of approximately 1615 students, where 6% of the students are from a language background other than English, with the predominant language groups of Vietnamese, Khmer, Cantonese and Mandarin and 0.05% are Aboriginal students. The Cabrogal people of the Darug Nation are the traditional custodians of the Land upon which the school stands. 

Canley Vale High School serves a culturally and linguistically diverse community that fosters a high expectation learning culture for all students to finish school ready to succeed in their chosen pathway as informed, engaged and responsible citizens. It includes a Special Education unit with five designated classes for neurodivergent learners.

The school's average FOEI is 143, which enables equity funds to strengthen learning, teaching, leadership, wellbeing initiatives and provide meaningful post-school pathways. Teachers implement evidence-informed practices to support quality teaching and whole school explicit literacy and numeracy strategies. We support a wellbeing hub with access to specialist allied health services and two Community Liaison Officers, afterschool study hub and HSC tutorials to enable our students to excel in their education.

Canley Vale High School has a highly motivated and engaged staff to support a broad inclusive and innovative curriculum with strong co-curricular activities, relevant VET pathways, accelerated Mathematics program, targeted EAL/D and Literacy classes and a High Potential and Gifted Education program. Student leadership programs promote student voice and agency.

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

  1. Demonstrated instructional leadership to build staff capacity to deliver inclusive, evidence informed teaching practices underpinned by high expectations to provide rich curriculum opportunities and improve learning outcomes.

     

  2. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills that foster positive relationships with all stakeholders including parents and students, departmental and external agencies to collaboratively develop partnerships by including student and parent voice.

  3. Demonstrated experience in managing a dynamic special education faculty with the ability to build collaborative teams, based on strong relational trust to inspire and motivate growth and development.

  4. Proven ability to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school improvement to drive effective delivery of the School Excellence Plan including to enhance outcomes for all learners.

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
