Graham Windham is one of the first organizations in the New York City to implement Solution – Based Casework. Solution – Based casework helps children and families to be the solution to the seemingly insurmountable problems in their lives, from generational cycles of poverty, abuse, and neglect to unemployment, domestic violence, and severe health problems. About the Program

Graham SLAM provides Graham Windham youth, ages 16 and up with comprehensive support, planning and strong peer and adult supports through post-secondary success and onto a living wage career path. Graham SLAM staff stick with youth through age 25.  

Volunteers form transformational relationships, guide youth toward academic milestones, and lead positive peer groups. The program will also aid youth with practical supports, such as tutoring, SAT preparation, college applications, financial aid forms, and post-secondary program selection.

About the Volunteer Position
Volunteers will work with individuals and small groups of participants under the supervision of the Director. They will provide assistance to students that will create a positive learning environment & allow for students' personal, social & academic development.

Duties & Responsibilities 
Assist in preparing materials & equipment for activities.
Aide in leading activities that are age appropriate in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences, enhancing the social, physical & academic advancement of children in his/her care.
Maintain a daily attendance log
Ensure maintenance of group control

Qualifications 
At least one year of relevant experience with school aged children & teens.
Experience in working with students from diverse backgrounds, specifically low income communities.

Core Competencies: Excellent Interpersonal & Conflict Resolution skills; Positive Attitude & Professional Demeanor. Must possess quality communication skills that reflect active listening. Ability to empathize with participants and plan appropriate interventions with staff and supervisor is paramount.
