Job Purpose

As the Senior Materials Processing Engineer at VulcanForms Inc., you will work with our Materials Scientists and Product Engineers; you will be responsible for developing and qualifying all post-build processing of additively manufactured parts fabricated by laser-based, metal powder bed fusion.

The successful candidate will develop part cleaning, heat-treating, surface improvement, and mechanical property test campaigns to substantiate part processing parameters that satisfy customer specifications, application, and visual requirements. Materials systems include Ni-based Superalloys, Stainless steels, and Ti-based alloys. In addition, the successful candidate will approve technical plans, author part, and material process specifications, define surface inspection procedures, perform destructive metallurgical analysis of parts, and provide customers with technical reports and certification documentation.

This opportunity is an exciting, technically challenging, hands-on role with support from a well-equipped metallurgical laboratory. The position is based in Burlington, MA but will require occasional travel, on an as-needed basis, to the nearby Devens, MA, manufacturing center.

Key Responsibilities
  • Experience with industrial-scale heat treating (vacuum furnaces, hot isostatic press)
  • Experience with optical, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and metallographic sample prep
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
  • Skilled using SEM, EDS, and Light microscope
  • Strict compliance with safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
  • 5+ years working in medical implant, power generation, or aerospace materials laboratory
  • Strong background in L-PBF metallurgy
  • Skilled in metallurgical laboratory practices, including handling strong acids and bases
  • Experience in NDT inspection
  • Experience with RTT, ETT, Axial, and Rotating Beam fatigue testing, and data analysis

VulcanForms offers a competitive salary and equity package. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VulcanForms provides comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; generous paid time off; and a 401(k) plan with company match. 

The annual base salary range for this position is $108,000 to $148,000.
