Job Description

Scope of Position

The Engineering Technician IV is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, and related mechanical systems within the hotel or hospitality property. This role ensures guest comfort, food safety compliance, energy efficiency, and uninterrupted operation of critical systems while maintaining high hospitality standards.

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a hotel or directly related industry.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, and electrical, is required.
  • Knowledge of hotel fire standards and procedures.
  • Able to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve personnel and production issues that arise, with minimal supervision.
  • Perform rigorous tasks including working from ladders, under equipment, and handling awkward materials or apparatus required for tasks assigned.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC equipment, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, fan coil units, refrigeration systems, ice machines, and kitchen cooling equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain proper operation of building automation and energy management systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control-related issues in HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Respond promptly to guest room and public area temperature complaints and maintenance requests.
  • Maintain refrigeration systems for restaurants, bars, banquet operations, and cold storage areas.
  • Report broken or misused equipment to the Engineering Manager or Director.
  • Ensure that all safety systems are operable.
  • Follows Occupational Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and hotel operating procedures.
  • Support emergency response procedures related to power failures, equipment breakdowns, or system malfunctions.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets, product labeling, proper storing, and handling of materials.
  • Record daily tasks, including P.M., for tracking maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain inventory of engineering tools, spare parts, and refrigerants.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Education

  • High school diploma: experience in a large hotel environment preferred.
  • Valid certification (e.g. ASE) is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate in the English language (Second language is a plus).
  • Knowledge of proper chemical handling, cleaning techniques and use of equipment/ machinery.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be physically fit to lift, pull, and push items up to 50 pounds.
  • Also requires standing/walking/reaching and bending throughout shift (up to 8 hours).
