Position Summary
The Dietary Manager oversees the daily operations of the dietary department, ensuring high-quality food service, compliance with regulations, clinical nutrition support, staff supervision, budgeting, and resident satisfaction. This position works closely with administration, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to provide excellent nutritional care and dining experiences for residents.
Responsibilities Include
Dietary Operations

Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the dietary department

Ensure compliance with sanitation, food safety, and healthcare regulations

Monitor food quality, meal service, and resident satisfaction

Maintain dietary department policies and procedures
Clinical Responsibilities

Complete nutritional assessments and required dietary documentation

Monitor resident food preferences, intake, and texture modifications
-
Participate in wound and weight meetings
-
Coordinate care for residents with special dietary needs and tube feedings

Complete dietary progress notes and assessments timely
Leadership & Staff Supervision

Interview, hire, train, and supervise dietary employees
-
Conduct employee evaluations and disciplinary actions as needed

Schedule staff and authorize overtime and PTO

Conduct monthly dietary in-service education

Promote teamwork and a positive work environment
Quality Assurance & Budgeting

Monitor quality assurance programs and resident dietary feedback
-
Attend department head meetings and provide reports as needed

Maintain department operations within budget guidelines

Order food and supplies and manage invoices appropriately
Qualifications
-
Must have completed or be enrolled in an approved Dietary Manager Course
-
Experience in food service management preferred

Long-term care or healthcare dietary experience preferred
-
Certified Dietary Manager (CDM), Diet Technician, or Registered/Licensed Dietitian preferred

Knowledge of food sanitation, special diets, inventory management, and large-scale food preparation

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Computer and keyboarding skills required

Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions
Working Conditions

Works primarily in kitchen and food service areas

Environment may be warm, moist, and fast-paced

Exposure to hot equipment, wet floors, refrigeration areas, and kitchen utensils

Universal precautions required due to potential exposure to communicable diseases
