Position: Life Application Specialist
Department: Life Operations
Reporting to: Life Business Manager
Location: Topeka, KS - Onsite
Overview:
As a Life Application Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in helping clients complete life insurance applications accurately and efficiently through our App Assist program. This position blends meaningful phone-based client interaction with detailed application processing, ensuring every submission is complete, compliant, and ready for carrier review.
If you’re detail-oriented, comfortable on the phone, and thrive in a fast-paced, process-driven environment, this role offers the opportunity to build valuable insurance experience while supporting producers, underwriters, and internal partners across the business.
What you’ll do:
- Conduct client phone interviews to complete personal history interviews (PHIs) and gather additional health information as requested by underwriting
- Document applicant responses accurately and update multiple systems and work queues
- Manage inbound and outbound calls while meeting quality, productivity, and service-level expectations
- Enter and review electronic life insurance applications to ensure all required information and forms are complete and in good order
- Send, receive, and track DocuSign documents throughout the application lifecycle
- Order attending physician statements (APS) and required medical exams
- Coordinate with the licensing team to confirm producers meet carrier licensing and training requirements
- Submit complete, in-good-order applications and supporting documentation to insurance carriers
- Assist with training and onboarding new team members within the Life Operations department
- Support special projects and additional tasks as needed
Licensing Requirement
- Must obtain a Life and Health insurance license within 30 days of hire
Experience you’ll bring:
- One year of related life insurance experience and/or a relevant medical background
- Strong verbal communication and active listening skills, especially in phone-based client interactions
- High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, production-focused environment
- Comfort navigating multiple computer systems and technology platforms
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
Bonus Points:
- Experience in a phone-based customer service, call center, or client interview role
- Ability to learn and apply underwriting guidelines, licensing requirements, and carrier-specific processes
- Bachelor’s degree
