About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Lihir fishing and boating clubs provide access to pristine waters and beaches, while our onsite deli and café serve fresh local and imported produce, barista-made coffee, and freshly baked goods.

Your Impact
As Supervisor, Projects, you will lead and manage a high‑performing project team to safely deliver capital and operational projects that directly support mine performance at Lihir Operations. You will ensure efficient utilisation of assets while maintaining strict compliance with engineering, safety, environmental, and operational standards.
This role is pivotal in driving successful project outcomes by delivering work safely, on time, within scope, and within budget across the Lihir Mine site.
In This Role You Will
- Lead and coordinate daily project activities to ensure delivery in line with approved scope, schedule, and budget
- Develop and maintain project execution plans, work schedules, and resource strategies across multidisciplinary teams
- Supervise, coach, and mentor a team of 5–10 personnel, including contractors, fostering a safe, productive, and engaged work environment
- Monitor project costs, forecast expenditures, and report variances to leadership
- Facilitate project meetings, track action items, and ensure timely resolution of technical and execution issues
- Ensure all work complies with Newmont HSEC standards through inspections, risk identification, and mitigation activities
- Manage contractor performance in accordance with contractual, regulatory, and company requirements
- Prepare and deliver project documentation including progress reports, risk registers, and lessons learned
- Coordinate procurement and logistics to ensure materials, equipment, and services are available when required
- Identify project risks and escalate critical issues to maintain continuity and achievement of project objectives
Prerequisites for the Role
- Tertiary qualification or recognised trade background in Engineering, Mining, Construction, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated experience supervising projects in mining or heavy industrial environments
- Proven track record delivering projects within scope, schedule, and budget in high‑risk operational settings
- Strong understanding of project management principles (PMBoK or equivalent)
- Sound knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements applicable to PNG operations
- Experience managing contractors, including performance management and project close‑out
- Proficiency in project planning tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar
- Working knowledge of SAP or equivalent work management systems
- Strong capability in cost control, forecasting, and reporting
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills and strong written communication/reporting capability
- Valid driver’s licence (site‑specific endorsements desirable)
Your Work Environment
This role is offered on a 21 days on / 21 days off FIFO roster to Lihir Island, Papua New Guinea.
FIFO employees are accommodated in a secure, comfortable camp featuring en‑suited, air‑conditioned rooms with mini‑fridge, TV, and Wi‑Fi. Healthy meal options are provided daily, and the wet mess offers a relaxed social environment with recreational facilities such as pool and darts.
