We are searching for a proactive and innovative Instrumental Music Teacher educator to maintain and build on the whole school Instrumental Music Teacher program. You will demonstrate exemplary teaching and learning skills in the area of Instrumental Music Teacher Education and a passion and drive for developing musical creativity in all students. You must enjoy teaching children and have the ability to inspire and instill a love of music making. You will need to demonstrate a willingness to work within a well-established and dynamic Music Department. Specific Responsibilities Instrumental Music Teacher will: ● At the direction of the Head of Music - Whole School Performance, teach students from Early Years to Secondary School ● Teach instrument teaching activities including one to one lessons, small group lessons and ensembles ● Manage, instruct and develop literacy, technique and performance ● Work with the Head of Music - Whole School performance to plan the main performance events within a school year, following the processes set out for secure calendared events in the school ● Coordinate and plan recitals ● Work with other Music teachers and Ensemble Directors to facilitate Art Music and Contemporary Music collaborations with other Instrumental and Vocal students and Ensembles ● Lead a CCA as directed by the Head of Music – Whole School Performance ● Participate in ongoing Professional Development including the observation cycle conversations designed to implement high-quality teaching ● Advocate for Music at AIS Curriculum ● Follow the AIS Instrumental Music Curriculum or alternative curriculum with the permission of the Head of Music – Whole School Performance ● Collect qualitative and quantitative data with which to gauge the success of the Instrumental Music Program and to guide next developmental steps ● When applicable, implement the requirements of all relevant curricula including: Australian Curriculum, AIS 9 to 10 Elective Music Program, HSC and IBDP in relation to student performances ● Where applicable and in conjunction with the Head of Music - Secondary Curriculum, develop performance repertoire for Senior Music Students in the AIS Elective Music program, HSC and IBDP music ● Participate in Music faculty meetings and parent meetings when needed ● Skills with Music specific IT including but not limited to, MuseScore, Sibelius, Garage Band and Logic Audio Pro Administration ● In conjunction with the Instrumental Music Coordinator and the Finance Department, coordinate parent invoicing for lessons (for one-to-one lessons and in some cases small group lessons), communicating with parents, scheduling and maintaining accurate timetables within the Instrumental Music Program’s processes and structures. ● Maintain appropriate records for student assessment/progress and provide timely feedback to parents ● Maintain appropriate records of meetings with parents – including parent/teacher interviews, phone calls and face to face meetings ● Attend timetabled departmental meetings sub-school meetings and information meetings as required ● Maintain effective communication Position Requirements: ● Skills and experience within an established Instrumental Music pedagogy is essential ● Ability to prioritize and set meaningful goals for the development of Instrumental Music at AIS. ● Knowledge of the course work requirements and assessment standards of classroom based curricular where performances would be assessed, including HSC and IB Music ● Experience in an international school environment would be a distinct advantage ● Excellent communication skills, multi-tasking and time management ● Ability to work as a part of a team and an interest in participating in the wider school community Qualifications: ● Performance Diploma or Bachelor of Music ● A minimum of 3 years Instrumental Music Teacher teaching experience ● Demonstrate past success with a range of teaching experience, from early childhood to adolescent, that display appropriate scaffolding of repertoire and skill development Access the full Job Description for this role here .
