Job Description
Research Senior Associate
Department: Research
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: Oxford, UK
Description
You will be a senior member of Aurora’s Great Britain (GB) Research team, playing a key role in delivering high-quality market analysis, forecasts and insight to our subscribers and bespoke clients. You will manage and mentor junior colleagues, take ownership of multiple workstreams in parallel, and contribute to the development of our research products. You will deepen your expertise in a specialised area of the power, storage and flexibility markets, becoming a trusted voice both internally and with senior client stakeholders such as heads of market analysis, strategy and trading.
You will work in a dynamic, stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment, applying your interpersonal skills to build connected, collaborative project teams. You will be given the responsibility to chart the path of your team through complex analyses, and the opportunity to substantially influence the thinking of organisations across the energy sector. Over time, you will grow into an industry expert at the world’s leading electricity market modelling firm.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver rigorous quantitative analyses of power, storage and flexibility markets, taking responsibility for multiple parallel workstreams and the quality of the team’s output
- Develop deep expert knowledge in a specialised area of energy research and act as a go-to voice for that topic both internally and externally
- Manage and develop a team of junior colleagues: setting clear direction, coaching them through their analyses, integrating client feedback into their work, and supporting their progression to Associate level
- Build and maintain senior client relationships, communicating insights clearly to heads of market analysis, strategy and trading through workshops, webinars and major Aurora events
- Take ownership of one or more Aurora research products: shaping product strategy, identifying improvements to research processes, and working with our software and modelling teams to translate analytical priorities into client-facing tools
- Champion Aurora externally and contribute to recruitment, including leading interviews for Analyst and Associate roles
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- At least 4 years of relevant experience, ideally at a top-tier consultancy, energy company, financial services firm, or another knowledge-focused institution
- First-class or high second-class university degree, ideally in a quantitative or technical discipline (e.g. engineering, economics, mathematics, physics)
- Demonstrated success in taking responsibility for project and process management in team-oriented environments, including managing multiple parallel workstreams
- Proven ability to interpret and derive insight from complex quantitative data, and to translate analytical results into clear recommendations
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences, including at senior client level
- Self-starting, entrepreneurial mindset and a genuine interest in the energy transition
- Industry experience at a renewables or battery storage developer, optimiser, IPP, or similar asset manager
