What You’ll Do:
The Peer Mental Health Support Specialist (PMHSS) is a non-clinical, Medicaid-reimbursable role within OhioRISE Care Coordination. The PMHSS utilizes lived experience with mental health challenges (as an individual and/or caregiver) to provide structured, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented support to youth and families. The PMHSS focuses on supporting mental health wellness through emotional regulation, coping skill development, and navigation of behavioral health services. Services are individualized, medically necessary, and directly tied to goals identified in the Individualized Care Plan (ICP). This role is a member of the Child and Family Team (CFT) and works collaboratively with the Care Coordinator and other providers to support engagement and progress.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certified Peer Supporter (Adult or Family Peer) through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, or ability to obtain certification within required timeframe
High school diploma or GED required
Demonstrated lived experience with mental health challenges (individual and/or caregiver)
Ability to appropriately and professionally utilize lived experience to support others
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with youth and families with behavioral health needs
Knowledge of OhioRISE and high-fidelity wraparound principles
Experience supporting individuals with emotional regulation and coping strategies
