Overview
Ammunition Storage & Accountability Warehouse Specialist (SWFPAC):
Bowhead seeks a Ammunition Storage & Accountability Warehouse Specialist at the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific (SWFPAC) and Marine Corps Security Force Battalion (MCSFBn) logistics department at Naval Base Kitsap, Bangor WA.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
- Maintains strict inventory control, physical security, and precise data tracking of explosive ordnance
- Focus on the physical custody of Class 1 explosives, ensuring 100% stockpile accountability while maintaining earth-covered magazine safety standards
- Execute cyclic, sensitive-item, and wall-to-wall physical inventory counts of ammunition, missiles, explosives, and pyrotechnics by lot number and serial number.
- Perform daily data entry and asset tracking within the Ordnance Information System (OIS) or Retail Ordnance Product Line (ROPL) to ensure the electronic inventory matches physical stockpiles.
- Receive and store explosive items inside secure Earth-Covered Magazines (ECMs), arranging assets according to strict Net Explosive Weight (NEW) limits and explosive compatibility matrixes.
- Maintain real-time tracking of ammunition physical conditions, segregating and documenting suspended, unserviceable, or deteriorated ordnance for inspection.
- Audit shipping documents, ammunition turn-in slips, and issue vouchers to ensure legal compliance with Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) P-805 guidelines
- Inspect incoming ordnance shipments to verify seal integrity, hazardous material placarding, and matching alphanumeric manufacturing codes.
- Safely operate specialized, spark-enclosed (Type EE) and explosion-proof (Type EX) material handling equipment (MHE) to move ordnance inside storage spaces.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Two to three (2–3) years of specialized experience in ammunition tracking, hazardous materials warehousing, or military arms room accountability
- Prior experience as a Marine Corps Ammunition Technician (MOS 2311) or Logistics Specialist (MOS 3043), or a Navy Aviation Ordnance man (AO) or Logistics Specialist (LS) with demonstrated ability to follow complex safety procedures
- Minimum one to two (1–2) years of experience handling industrial hazardous materials, chemical storage, or commercial explosives.
- Enrollment in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), which requires high standards of mental and physical stability, ethical conduct, and emotional maturity.
- Familiarity with military supply systems, inventory control software, and material handling equipment
- Completion of DoD-approved ordnance courses such as AMMO-45 (Intro to Ammo) and AMMO-64 (Class V Ammunition Real-Time Tracking System)
- Formal instruction in Department of Defense (DoD) or Department of Transportation (DOT) HAZMAT regulations
- Capability to pass annual explosives-handler medical surveillance exams, including strict vision, color-differentiation, audiogram, and heavy weight-bearing tests
- Must pass an initial and annual physical exam, including vision, hearing, and lifting tests, to ensure the capacity to handle heavy munitions safely.
- Must pass initial and random ongoing urinalysis screenings under the federal drug-free workplace program
- Have written and oral communications abilities commensurate with this management role.
- Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
- Ability to understand, speak, read, and write the English language.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, Government Representative, and outside contacts.
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Advanced Certification Requirements:
- Advanced Navy/DoD certification in AMMO-62 (Technical Transportation of Hazardous Materials), AMMO-76, or equivalent Center for Ordnance Training programs.
- Demonstrated mastery of NAVSEA OP 5 standards with the ability to build localized Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Active or clear eligibility for a state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials (X) Endorsement.
- Master Material Handling Equipment (MHE) operator status specializing in explosive-rated (EE and EX) assets
Target salary is $62K-$80K commensurate with experience
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
Environment
- Ammunition Storage & Accountability Warehouse Specialist is required to be on-site.
- Work areas consist of office and non-office settings such supply, and transportation facilities.
- Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) which includes safety glasses, protective-toe footwear, gloves, and hearing protection as required.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
