In December 2021, Brightstar Capital Partners ("Brightstar"), a private equity firm focused on partnering with families, founders, entrepreneurs, and management teams, completed its acquisition of Novae LLC in partnership with the Company's two founders and senior management team. Job Summary: Lead a mission driven shipping team to meet or exceed organizational goals while creating an environment where people can be great at what they do and proud of what they have done; oversee shipping and logistic processes to ensure the transport of our high-quality trailers in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the safety of the team through requiring safe work practices, regularly discussing safety as a priority, and looking for opportunities to remove hazards.
  • Lead and manage a team of individuals within the shipping department to accomplish scheduled workload.
  • Coordinate and communicate specific needs of department with other department supervisors. 
  • Attend daily and weekly meetings to coordinate with other departments, project production goals, and to expand leadership skills and development. 
  • Track time and attendance throughout the department: including scheduling and approving vacation, approving weekly attendance, and tracking attendance discrepancies. 
  • Perform daily team huddles to align production goals and promote safety and shipping goals.
  • Coordinate training of the team to build skills and help people develop to their fullest potential.
  • Provide on-going performance feedback to team members through formal and informal channels, including recognition of a job well done and regular performance evaluation. 
  • Work with sales team to communicate and execute any changes made to specific trailer shipments. 
  • Using the shipping calendar, manage the movement of trailers throughout North America by coordinating shipments with selected freight carriers while identifying opportunities to optimize revenue. 
  • Assist the sales team to initiate RFQ’s from additional carriers when necessary.
  • Maintain monthly and annual company/department KPI’s.
    1. Analyze data to determine root cause and corrective actions needed.
    2. Recommend and implement approved changes that will improve performance.
    3. Track and report improvements with plant manager monthly.
  • Participate in continual improvement planning to drive changes to processes, equipment, ergonomics, and environment. Execute action items as requested by leadership.
  • Maintain an efficient work force by participating in the screening, interviewing, and selection of shipping and logistics employees.
  • Resolve concerns from the team using Novae’s Guiding Questions.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Experience in shipping leadership, preferably within a shipping and logistics environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required, or demonstrated equivalent skills, knowledge, and abilities. 
  • Proven experience in leading safety compliance and engagement
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Visual, and related software
