Job Description
Position Summary:
The Quality Specialist assists the QA Manager in ensuring that the company’s quality assurance standards are met and performs various QA-related tasks.
The Quality Specialist will follow the guidelines set by CLIA, and CA Business and Professional Code of Regulations (BPC: 1212 and 1269) unlicensed laboratory personnel.
Unlicensed laboratory personnel are defined as a laboratory aide, histocompatibilitytechnician, cardiopulmonary technician, or other person performing the activities authorized by CA BPC 1269.
Duties:
1) Responsible for assisting in the coordination, integration and implementation of the
company wide performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with
company policies and Federal/State regulatory and accreditation standards.
2) Assists with, and monitors systems and procedures for the identification, collection and
analysis of the performance of quality measurement data.
3) Responsible for maintaining quality management documents, incident reports and
correspondence in an organized and secure manner.
4) Educates and trains staff as to the quality improvement plan, and their respective
responsibilities in carrying out the quality improvement program.
5) Coordinates and integrates the introduction of quality improvement processes
throughout the company in accordance with the quality plan.
6) Assists with identifying and developing future goals and activities for quality assurance
and participates in decisions on priorities and activities.
7) Participates in audit preparation and coordination.
Job Description
8) Compiles, monitors and reports data related to QA, lab operations and program
evaluations.
9) Provides reports on a regular basis and as directed or requested, to keep Management
informed of the operation and progress of quality efforts.
10) Assists in the survey preparation and process.
11) Assists in QA and document control processes, including administration and
management of internal audits, record maintenance and archiving.
12) Performs daily laboratory safety inspections.
13) Performs other duties as assigned by Laboratory Management.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education (Indicate minimum education or degree required.)
- High school diploma/GED, or comparable work experience.
Preferred Education (Indicate preferred education or degree required.)
- Bachelor’s Degree.
Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications (Indicate minimum years of job experience, skills or abilities required for the job.)
- 1–3 years of clinical laboratory experience in an acute care hospital laboratory
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Exercises accuracy and precision in completion of prescribed tasks
- Data entry/computer skills
Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications (Indicate preferred years of job experience, skills or abilities required
for the job.)
- 3-5 years of experience on Quality Management preferred
- Knowledge of CAP accreditation standards strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Joint Commission laboratory standards preferred
Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation (List any licensure or certification required and specify name of
agency.)
- Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS); preferred
- Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of hire)
- Assault Response Competency (ARC) required (within 30 days of hire)
