Osborn Engineering is seeking a Director of Power Engineering with 15+ Years experience for our Cleveland, Columbus, Michigan, or Pittsburgh office location who will report to the Great Lakes Division Leader. The ideal candidate would have strong working knowledge of Electrical Power design in the Consulting Engineering environment as well as a strong background of regional leadership in the AEC consulting environment focused on team development, business opportunity development, as well as business operations experience.
Osborn Engineering is looking to expand on our growing list of substation design and construction projects. The Director of Power will work alongside the leadership team at Osborn to grow and develop the Power business (medium and high voltage substation, transmission line, etc..) throughout the Midwest region.
Position Responsibilities
- Leads the Region for the Facilities Power team and develop relationships across market sectors to position Osborn as the preferred and trusted choice for clients and employees.
- Develops Regional growth, forecast, strategic initiatives, performance oversight and business development strategy in collaboration with market sector leaders and practice areas.
- Informs the strategic direction of the Power team within the Region and positions it for sustained growth consistent within the intentions of the overall company strategic plan.
- Maintains relationships with top Power related clients in the Region, leads the strategy and implementation to maximize Osborn’s value proposition to clients.
- Collaborate with Osborn Division Leaders, Office Managers, and Directors to grow and sustain an integrated practice. Promote a culture of “One Osborn”
- Ensures Osborn’s presence in the Power market is maintained at the highest regard through quality project performance and client management as well as community involvement.
- Responsible for key performance indicators for Power related projects in the region including project performance.
- Attracting and recruiting talent
- Builds the best teams to maximize productivity including bringing in technical expertise as applicable to solve client challenges.
- Strategic recruitment and performance management focused on the employee experience.
- Ensuring the quality of proposals and technical work Power related work produced within the Region
- Oversee the application of client standards and applicable design codes and specifications related to design requirements
Job Requirements/Qualifications
- 15+ Years of experience in Power related design services within Consulting Engineering.
- Working knowledge of design and analysis software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, ETAP, Easypower, Microstaion, WinGIS, CYME, and CGEGS
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, NESC, IEEE, IEC.
- Experience with electrical system studies such as short circuit, over-current device coordination, and Arc Flash Hazard analysis per NPFA 70E.
- Experience in the design of substation physical structures, wiring and controls
- Knowledge of standard construction practices and the ability to work with contractors to address construction issues.
- Coordinate with technical leads and senior engineers when specialized assistance is needed on design. Act as a mentor to your team.
- Ability to work and manage tasks on several projects concurrently
- Perform substation engineering calculations including ground grid design, rigid bus analysis, and auxiliary system sizing (AC/DC load, batteries, chargers) in SKM or similar software.
- Design and size conduit and high/medium voltage conductor.
- Select and specify transformers, switchgear, and protective devices.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering Required
- PE License Preferred.
- Experience supporting IOUs such as FE, PPL, Dominion, Duke Energy, CPP, or AEP.
- Leadership experience with successful business acumen history.
- Excellent Organizational and Communication skills.
- Proactive and Collaborative team motivator.
- Proficiency with marking up drawings digitally and understanding of CAD application
- Strong understanding of substation equipment and configurations such as AIS, transformer banks, ring bus, breaker-and-a-half, etc.
