About the team and the role:
eBay’s Global Indirect Tax team sits within a dynamic EMEA/APAC VAT/DST function based in Bangalore, supporting compliant and scalable growth across the marketplace. The team partners closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal to ensure VAT/DST requirements are embedded into systems and business models as regulations evolve across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.
This role, VAT specialist – EMEA VAT, focuses on VAT and DST strategy, compliance, technology enablement, and risk management. It plays a key role in translating regulatory requirements into scalable solutions, supporting cross-border trade, and strengthening VAT/DST governance. The position based in Bangalore reports within the EMEA Indirect Tax team and contributes to global tax initiatives.
What you will accomplish:
Support VAT compliance across EMEA by overseeing multi-jurisdictional requirements, including EU VAT Directive, UK VAT, OSS/IOSS, tax on services and deemed supplier rules
Improve accuracy and scalability of VAT/DST processes by partnering with Accounting, Controlling, Product and Engineering to enhance tax determination, reporting, and data integrity
Translate complex VAT/DST regulations into system logic and business requirements to support platform and tax engine enhancements
Manage VAT/DST compliance activities, including preparation of the returns, filings, coordination with shared services teams and external advisors, and continuous process improvements
Support VAT audits and tax authority interactions, working with internal teams to develop strategies to support timely and effective resolution
Monitor legislative changes and implement required updates across systems and business processes
Provide clear VAT/DST guidance and training to cross-functional teams, supporting business initiatives, expansions, and governance frameworks
Support reconciliation verifying data consistency with processes and alignment with expectations
Ad-hoc support in case of other internal activities (i.e.: preparation of presentations, preparation of meetings, etc.)
Archive management – verify and update the team and tax documentation archive ensuring all documents are correctly stored, in line with company standards.
Support the team with internal tasks such as management of vendors’ onboarding process, management of procurement and purchase orders workflows, support with budget forecasts.
Identify and support automation, usage of AI and process improvements to redefine the data management
What you will bring:
Experience managing VAT/DST compliance across multiple jurisdictions in an international organisation
Ability to apply VAT/DST expertise within technology environments, including tax engines, ERP systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA), and automation tools
Strong collaboration skills with experience working across Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal teams
Proven experience managing VAT audits and engaging with tax authorities
Analytical and research skills to assess legislative changes and business impact
Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain complex VAT concepts to diverse audiences
Additional requirements:
3-5 years of indirect tax experience, focused on VAT/DST
Background in public accounting and/or a multinational organisation
Degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, Legal, Information Systems, or related field; professional qualification preferred
Fluency in English; additional European languages are beneficial
Experience with data analytics or AI-enabled tools is a plus
Ability to work in a hybrid role both remotely and in person from eBay’s Bangalore office and collaborate across time zones
