
Unit Secretary
Job Description
Performs Clerical/Business Duties
Compiles new charts for admissions and transfers
Maintains current charts
Prepares admission packets assuring adequate supply on the unit
Enters physicians' orders into the hospital computer
Transcribes orders accurately
Maintains tidiness/orderliness of the workstation
Maintains and orders supply inventory
Discharges and transfers patients from the unit via the computer
Follows established charge procedure for patient charge items
Processes work requests for equipment on unit to assist in maintaining a safe environment
Manages Information
Completes concurrent chart reviews and flagging of areas needing completion
Assists in contacting medical center staff to assure compliance with completing charts prior to patient discharge
Completes open record reviews as required each month
Assists in securing signature on “Permit to Treat” form
organizes and assures clinical nurse is made aware of lab results as received on the unit

Uses data, and the information derived from it, only in the execution of official duties, does not share computer passwords, understands authorized use of UM CRMC equipment and computer resources, reports information security related incidents, etc.
Follows practices that demonstrate financial accountability (i.e. conserves supplies)
Reports occupational incidents to immediate supervisor, patient care supervisor or designee within 3 calendar days of an occurrence.

Work Experience
To qualify for the position, the candidate must have an high school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to utilize computer and fax machine required. One year experience in clerical position preferred. Medical Terminology preferred.

Pay Range: $17.68-$24.76
