Job Description

Summary

The Project Engineer IV ensures buildings operate at peak performance by applying expertise in commissioning (Cx), retro-commissioning (RCx), and building operations optimization and leading projects from a technical standpoint. This role combines technical execution, client engagement, and leadership, requiring strong collaboration with design, construction, and facility teams to reduce energy waste, improve system reliability, and enhance occupant comfort. The role requires regular exercise of independent judgment in matters of significance, including project execution, technical recommendations, and client advisement.

Commissioning & Retro-Commissioning Execution

  • Lead and perform commissioning team activities independently for HVAC, lighting, controls, and building automation systems.
  • Oversee and implement commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, and functional test procedures.
  • Lead and conduct site visits, inspections, and assessments of mechanical systems with little to no supervision.
  • Witness functional testing and verify performance against design intent and owner requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and oversee system performance verification while supporting junior engineers in verifying system performance
  • Collaborate with contractors and vendors to ensure correct installation and operation of building automation systems and HVAC equipment.
  • Lead retro-commissioning by analyzing existing systems, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Oversee the documentation and resolution of deficiencies with contractors and facility staff.


Design & Construction Support

  • Oversee and produce system schematics, wiring diagrams, logic narratives, manuals, as- builts, and training guides.
  • Quality control for design documents for constructability, energy performance, and operational effectiveness.
  • Provide commissioning input during design to align with Enica’s performance and sustainability standards.
  • Oversee factory witness testing, submittal reviews, and inspections.
  • Support project managers with RFIs, punch lists, and project closeout.

Energy Systems & Optimization

  • Identify, develop, and implement Energy Conservation Measures/ Energy Efficiency Measures (ECM/EEM) with no supervision for client engagements
  • Apply energy modeling tools and simulations to support control strategies and benchmarking.
  • Lead energy modeling and engineering report development for specified optimization of building automation and control systems (BAS/BMS) in client facilities

Client Engagement

  • Meet with clients to understand goals, provide guidance, and present recommendations clearly.
  • Deliver clear and concise reports that communicate test results, performance gaps, and corrective actions
  • Build strong relationships to support repeat business and new opportunities.
  • Support and deliver sales with technical input, scope development, and budget estimates.
  • Create marketing case studies annually to showcase successful engagements

Project Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship on subject matters that you are developing expertise
  • Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure cohesive execution.
  • Review vendor/subcontractor deliverables, submittals, and change requests.

Continuous Improvement, Innovation, & Technical Documentation/ Training

  • Contribute to standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Improve internal technical documentation resources and distribute to the company as a part of Enica’s ongoing training initiatives
  • Lead at least two internal training sessions annually.
  • Document lessons learned and integrate feedback into process improvements.


Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related field of engineering is required.
  • EIT/PE and/or CEM is preferred.
  • Additional project development, engineering, and energy related professional certifications are a plus (e.g. LEED-AP, CEM, DBIA, etc.)
  • 5 or more years of progressive project development experience.
  • Experience in Public Sector with hospitals, pharmaceuticals, research laboratories, commercial offices, and higher education preferred.
  • Excellent initiative, and interpersonal communications skills required.
  • Demonstrates engineering and analytical acumen to develop complex solutions and build credibility.
  • Experience working on complex projects and interdisciplinary teams of professionals.
  • Moderate regional travel required with possibility of limited national travel; overnight travel occasionally required.
