Job Description
The Facilities and Plant Operations Team support BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS) sector’s 36 properties, over 2 million SF of real estate, in Colorado. This established team of over 90 Facilities and Industrial Operations professionals is committed to service and support, continuous improvement, and creating and maintaining Facilities which enable world class engineers and technicians to create a better, safer, and more informed and productive world.
FPO’s Strategic Space and Utilization team supports strategic space and equipment planning, capital management and support for SMS business units, enterprise operations management, space planning and allocation as well as design and operations planning services.
As a Facilities Planning Specialist II, you will join the Planning & Interiors Design team and help support one of our largest business units with a partnering Facilities Sr. Planner. In this role, you will interact and collaborate with all levels of BAE Systems SMS employees on matters related to facility planning, space management, workspace configurations and people and equipment moves. You will validate and develop detailed design layouts and project scopes and schedules. In this role, you will manage all vendors related to office space design, furniture installation and employee and/or equipment moves, and work with their Facilities partners on overall project costs.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide planning and interior design services to support BAE Systems SMS campuses. Work with internal SMS business units and support team goals, functional needs, space requirements and budget.
- Create innovative design solutions, maximizing space, introducing amenities and flexible working environments that support a dynamic workforce and environment.
- Design dynamic and sustainable office space solutions, utilizing existing and/or new modular systems and/or free-standing furniture. Provide cost-effective space planning solutions by utilizing existing company furniture standards, when possible.
- Develop detailed space plans and layouts: planning will include employee and equipment move plans and pre-development field verifications and validation of building condition. Design flexible and varied environments that support growth and new hire projections for all end users/internal SMS customers.
- Oversee design needs for day to day Move/Add/Change (MAC) requests.; including but not limited to providing layouts utilizing AutoCAD for modular system and freestanding furniture, from initial programming and field verifications to final installation documents.
- Partner with Engineering and Industrial Operations teams to design seating within lab and/or manufacturing environments, including lab seating, ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) Bench seating, and storage options within technical spaces.
- Provide freestanding and modular furniture design and Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment (FF&E) for ongoing retrofit or new construction projects. Complete initial programming, furniture layout and specification, budget, procurement and installation coordination. Oversee interior signage installation and branding coordination with MarComm teams. Designate further FF&E in concert with Facilities Engineering and Maintenance teams.
- Review, validate, approve and process furniture, design, and vendor invoices for payment.
- Maintain current knowledge of evolving Facilities Management trends, office space design, and furniture and ergonomic best practices and translate changes in work environment design into dynamic spaces for BAE Systems SMS employees.
- Prepare CAD drawings for project specific tasks and share with internal/external service providers. Create 3-D renderings and design models for appropriate projects and SR Planners’ review.
- Provide updated furniture CAD drawings to the IWMS database team.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site three or more days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 2 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Experience in Facilities Management, Planning, Facilities Project Management, or furniture/interior project management or design.
- Familiarity with IFMA and ANSI/BOMA standards.
- Demonstrated proficiency with CAFM/IWMS systems (ARCHIBUS experience preferred).
- Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD 2020+.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Visio and Excel, SharePoint and Teams. Specification experience with commercial furniture manufacturers, including modular furniture systems (i.e., Steelcase, Herman Miller, Haworth).
- Work under limited supervision. Routine work requires no instruction. General instructions given for new assignments
- Ability and willingness to travel between campuses as needed, to support projects.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills- Degrees in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Facilities Management, with an emphasis in Facilities Design or Project Management, highly preferred.
- Experience supporting Aerospace and/or Corporate Facilities, and familiarity with classified and secured work environments, highly preferred.
- Facilities Management, Project Management and/or Interior Design certifications or accreditations, is desired.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $67406 - $114590

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
