Overview
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Youth Ministries Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing youth programs that support spiritual growth, discipleship, and outreach. This role partners with Corps leadership to ensure effective programming, build relationships with youth and families, and support overall Corps operations in alignment with The Salvation Army’s mission.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a daily devotional and prayer life
- Weekly participation in Corps Worship Service
- Work in unity with the Corps Officers to ensure programming excellence in all aspects of youth ministries
- Collaborate with other staff to support social services as needed, particularly with Spanish speaking clients in the absence of Corps Officers
- Develop and maintain a healthy working relationship with all people per the practices and policies of The Salvation Army
- Coordinate and implement the evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development of the young people involved in corps programs, including opportunities for new ministry initiatives
- Regular contact and visitation of those who participate in youth activities and their families
- Provide leadership and support for youth Sunday School classes and other youth programming
- Provide leadership and support as needed for youth activities such as Kids Club, Teen Club, Junior Soldiers, Corps Cadets, etc.
- Support summer youth activities such as VBS and Day Camp
- Assist with recruitment, coordination, and transportation of kids attending camp, Youth Councils, young adult gatherings & other divisional events
- Maintain all records of attendance & statistics for related programs
- Support daily operations of the corps as it relates to Spanish speaking individuals and families with potential youth participants
- Maintain clean work and program areas
- Attend all required Youth Ministries Coordinator meetings conducted by Divisional Youth Departments
- Willingness to undertake additional duties as requested by Corps Officers seasonally
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry, Theology, Social Work, Education, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience working with youth in a ministry, nonprofit, educational, or community-based setting
- Experience developing and leading youth programs, activities, or events preferred
- Demonstrated ability to engage and build relationships with children, teens, and families
- Experience working in a faith-based organization and understanding of Christian ministry principles preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills strongly preferred
- Valid driver’s license and experience transporting youth or coordinating transportation preferred

- Demonstrated Christian values, integrity, and high moral character
- Strong creativity and ability to develop engaging youth programs
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Intermediate computer proficiency
- Valid driver’s license with ability to operate a 12-passenger van
- Commitment to The Salvation Army mission; uniform-wearing Salvationist preferred
- Musical ability a plus
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to complete and maintain required training, including KeepSAfe
