INFORMATION SERVICES SPECIALIST I

University of Alabama at Birmingham 

 

The Information Systems Specialist I provides essential technical support to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of departmental information systems. This role partners with end users to resolve issues, recommend solutions, and support day-to-day technology operations. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career IT professional looking to build hands-on experience in systems support, troubleshooting, and user engagement in a collaborative environment.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Supports department information systems requirements and objectives.

  • Consults with system users and makes software and/or hardware recommendations. Installs and/or develops customized software as required.

  • Provides training and documentation of software.

  • Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs as necessary any department hardware and peripherals.

  • May maintain department file server, i.e. back-ups, additions and deletion of users, etc.

 

Preferred

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, networks, and applications

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Organizational skills with attention to detail

  • This position is onsite.

Hourly Range: $18.85-$30.65

Education

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field

  • And one (1) year of related experience required.

  • Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
