The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Nursing Acute, Chronic & Continuing Care, is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator I.

The Clinical Research Coordinator I (CRC I) will support two active research studies focused on improving patient-centered outcomes and functional recovery among medically complex populations. The PPC-HEART study focuses on improving communication and care alignment for older adults with multiple chronic conditions in primary care using a patient priorities-based approach. The NCI-funded R01 study, Optimizing Functional Recovery of Cancer Survivors: The Behavioral Activation-Rehabilitation (BA-R) Program, is a multi-site randomized factorial trial designed to identify the most effective components of a multicomponent intervention to improve participation in valued life activities among breast cancer survivors following treatment. The CRC I will play a central role in participant recruitment, screening, consent, and study coordination, and will support intervention delivery and data collection activities. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to engage participants in both clinic-based and remote research activities.

General Responsibilities

  • To serve as coordinator for studies and provide support to other team members within the confines of the protocol as directed.

  • To support screening and participant eligibility determination, working with more senior team members to ensure compliance.

  • To conduct activities in accordance with the protocol, regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

  • To assist with the study life cycle from start-up to closure, i.e., collecting and recording data, recruiting and performing follow-up with participants, scheduling visits and assisting in coordination of lab and fieldwork.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Assists with study recruitment, including identifying, screening, consenting, and enrolling participants across both studies.

  2. Conducts medical record review and coordinates with clinical teams to identify eligible participants.

  3. Coordinates and schedules study visits, intervention sessions, and follow-up assessments.

  4. Supports delivery of study interventions as appropriate, including preparation of materials and participant communication.

  5. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of all participant interactions and study activities.

  6. Enters and manages study data in secure, web-based platforms (e.g., REDCap).

  7. Ensures adherence to study protocols, including human subjects protections and confidentiality procedures.

  8. Communicates effectively with participants, clinicians, and study team members across multiple sites.

  9. Participates in regular team meetings and assists with coordination across study teams.

  10. Assists with regulatory documentation and study tracking (e.g., enrollment logs, IRB-related materials).

  11. Provides general support to the research program, including literature review and assistance with abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Annual Salary Range: $43,890 - $71,320

High School diploma or GED required.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
