Job Description

Job Summary  Responsible for developing and managing strategic business relationships with W.W. Grainger field sales leaders, sellers, and associated end-user accounts within a multi-state assigned territory. This role focuses on driving sales growth, increasing market share, and executing solutions-based selling strategies through product demonstrations, customer training, account development, and collaborative sales initiatives. The position requires strong relationship management skills, territory planning, and the ability to identify customer needs while delivering exceptional service and support. This will be done while promoting Makita’s “Best-In-Class Engineering & Innovation” brand position and the extensive Makita product line.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Travel extensively throughout the assigned territory to conduct company business, including periodic travel for customer visits, corporate meetings, training programs, and industry trade shows.
  • Present, demonstrate, and promote Makita products to existing and prospective customers and end users, including conducting product knowledge and training sessions.
  • Apply and execute a consultative, solutions-based sales approach to identify customer needs and deliver value-driven recommendations.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to expand market and segment share by securing large end-user conversions.
  • Build, maintain, and strengthen professional relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, end users, and key decision-makers within assigned accounts and business segments.
  • Provide sales and customer support related to pricing, credit terms, MAP policy compliance, order management, and other sales support functions.
  • Implement and administer corporate sales initiatives, including rebate programs, promotional campaigns, and strategic sales programs.
  • Organize and conduct account reviews, sales update meetings, and other business meetings in a professional manner, including preparation of agendas, presentations, sales analysis, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop and execute strategic sales growth plans and account proposals for key accounts and assigned business segments on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department by providing market feedback and effectively utilizing and distributing marketing collateral, including catalogs, brochures, promotional materials, presentations, and point-of-purchase displays.
  • Effectively utilize organizational resources and cross-functional support from departments, including Training, Service, and Marketing to achieve business objectives.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and execute customer engagement activities, including product demonstrations, contractor training programs, trade shows, sales events, and joint sales calls.
  • Investigate, address, and resolve customer concerns and service-related issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, and competitor activities, and communicate relevant insights and opportunities to internal stakeholders.
  • Set up, manage, and maintain merchandising displays and product presentations within account locations as required.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate business reports, including sales activity reports, account updates, weekly call reports, monthly reports, expense reports, mileage logs, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain accountability for company assets and records, including vehicles, demonstration tools, product samples, marketing materials, and related equipment.
  • Perform all company functions per federal, state, and municipal laws and per company policies.

Travel: The role requires regular travel aligned to the needs of the account(s), including local and regional driving. Overnight travel is expected periodically, depending on account size and geographic coverage. Occasional national air travel is required for executive meetings, planning sessions, and company events.

 

Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities

  • Excellent communication skills in person, over the phone, and in writing. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills. 
  • Possess a “Do Whatever it Takes” attitude to get the job done. 
  • Bilingual is a plus. (Spanish preferred)

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and products weighing up to approximately 50-75 pounds, including items such as lawn mowers, breaker hammers, and display materials
  • Ability to safely operate and demonstrate power tools, including saws, drills, breaker hammers, and other handheld equipment
  • Ability to transport tools, displays, and merchandising materials into and out of vehicles, customer facilities, and jobsite environments
  • Ability to walk extended distances through large industrial and construction jobsites while carrying tools or equipment
  • Ability to navigate stairs, ramps, elevators, ladders, and uneven or outdoor terrain commonly found on jobsites
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and use repetitive hand and arm motions during demonstrations, setup, and merchandising activities
  • Ability to drive for extended periods of time, including local and regional travel
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to noise, dust, temperature variations, and typical jobsite conditions
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and protective footwear

 

Education, Skills, and Experience Needed:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a 4-year college or university; or 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 5+ years of Territory Management 
  • Background in industrial sales 
  • Knowledge of the power tool industry and/or all phases of construction 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
