Position Overview
The Elementary School Science Lab Teacher at Shoal Creek inspires curiosity and a love of science in young learners by designing and delivering engaging, hands-on learning experiences. This role focuses on science exploration, inquiry-based learning, and interactive activities that help students develop foundational scientific thinking skills. The teacher will create a dynamic lab environment where students actively participate in experiments, investigations, and collaborative projects.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Engagement
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate science lessons aligned with curriculum standards for elementary students.
- Facilitate hands-on science exploration, allowing students to investigate concepts through experimentation and observation.
- Use engaging activities, such as demonstrations, experiments, STEM challenges, and interactive projects to spark curiosity.
- Encourage inquiry-based learning by guiding students to ask questions, make predictions, and draw conclusions.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles and abilities.
Lab Management & Safety
- Maintain a safe, organized, and well-equipped science lab environment.
- Teach and enforce proper lab safety procedures and responsible use of materials.
- Prepare and manage materials for experiments and exploratory activities.
- Conduct routine inventory and ensure proper storage and handling of equipment and supplies.
Curriculum Development
- Develop and implement a hands-on science curriculum that emphasizes exploration, discovery, and real-world connections.
- Integrate cross-curricular concepts (e.g., math, reading, technology) into science lessons.
- Incorporate STEM/STEAM activities, including problem-solving challenges and design-based learning experiences.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Assess student understanding through observations, lab work, projects, and informal assessments.
- Provide meaningful feedback to students to support growth and curiosity in science learning.
- Maintain records of student progress and communicate with classroom teachers and parents as needed.
Collaboration & Communication
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support and enhance science instruction across grade levels.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff to build enthusiasm for science learning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Science Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid teaching certification/license (as required by state or district).
- Experience teaching elementary students, preferably in science or STEM-related instruction.
- Strong knowledge of elementary science concepts and inquiry-based teaching strategies.
