| Primary Purpose: | Provide leadership for the district in the growth and guidance of students with special needs. The person in this position is responsible for supporting the district's and department's mission through supervision and coordination of programs and related services. |
| Qualifications/Skills: | Education/Certification: - Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position.
- Master's degree in related field.
- Principal Certification preferred.
- Leadership experience preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Strong communication, public relations and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Specially Designed Instruction.
- Knowledge of Dyslexia instruction and identification.
- Knowledge of special education policy and procedures.
- Bilingual preferred.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: | Program Management: - Exemplify and develop positive interpersonal relationships among teachers, students, staff and other personnel.
- Collaborate with central special education, campus and district staff on the appropriate allocation of resources.
- Work with central office administration, principals and faculties in implementing specially designed instruction and strategies that result in positive student behavior and improved academic performance.
- Cooperatively plan with central office administration, principals, advisory teams and faculties in the selection of materials, development of methodology and implementation of innovative teaching techniques, strategies and staff development sessions.
- Assist campus level teams with the development of plans to support student needs, to include goal development based on present levels of performance, and instructional programming and design.
- Assist staff in the implementation of data collection and the interpretation of data to enhance student success.
Instructional Management: - Contribute to evaluation of instructional programs and personnel and recommend improvements in the design and implementation of the programs and services.
- Utilize knowledge of curriculum processes to facilitate teachers' development of appropriate learning experiences for students.
- Attend staffings/ARD's when appropriate to assist with the development and/or evaluation of individual educational plans.
Professional Growth and Development: - Engage in professional growth opportunities to gain an awareness of current "best practices".
- Maintain an awareness of current special education policy and procedures.
Other: - Perform other duties as assigned.
