About the role

We have an opportunity for a Network Security Engineer to be part of our Network and Security Platform Services, Technology and Communication Services Command team. The Network Security Engineer implements and maintains security controls that protect NSW Police’s systems and data, ensuring secure design, risk mitigation, and compliance. By embedding security into technology platforms, it helps safeguard sensitive information and supports the organisation’s mission to uphold public safety and trust.

The Network and Security Platform Services Directorate manage and maintain the overarching connectivity and security requirements for over 550 NSWP sites. 

They are responsible for the connection of users and devices to NSWPF systems, the delivery of data across the entirety of the NSWPF Network, the network management of boundaries, security and dataflow control, NSWPF Telecommunication Services, and the control interoperability and connectivity between NSWPF applications, external services and devices.

Key Accountabilities 

Cryptography, HSM & Key Management

  • Administer and manage Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) to ensure the secure storage and protection of private keys. 
  • Support Key Management Systems (KMS), ensuring effective key lifecycle management aligned with cryptographic best practices. 
  • Maintain compliance with organisational security standards and established cryptographic policies.

PKI & Certificate Management 

  • Maintain and support enterprise PKI environments, including trust chains, CRL/AIA/CDP services, and certificate policies. 
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of certificates (internal and external), including issuance, renewal, revocation, and replacement. 
  • Diagnose and resolve complex certificate-related issues across applications, infrastructure, and identity platforms.

Privileged Access Management (PAM) 

  • Support, upgrade and maintain PAM solutions, including onboarding privileged accounts, enforcing access controls, and monitoring privileged sessions. 
  • Contribute to reducing privileged access risks through policy enforcement, monitoring, and audit activities. 
  • Incident Management & Technical Support
  • Lead advanced incident triage and perform root cause analysis for security, identity, and certificate-related issues. 
  • Work collaboratively with security, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure timely resolution of complex incidents. 
  • Provide escalation support and technical guidance to junior team members.

Essential Requirements: 

  • Experience in Identity & Access Management (IAM) and Identity Governance.
  • Knowledge of Federated SSO technologies (SAML, OAuth). 
  • Experience with WebSEAL / Reverse Proxies and secure access platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, and authentication flows. 
  • Exposure to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) solutions. 
  • Familiarity with API Gateways and secure API authentication. 
  • Experience with F5 (LTM/APM) or similar application delivery/security platforms. 
  • Scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell) for automation and operational efficiency. 
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities. 
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.

IMPORTANT INFORAMTION

  • You will be asked to complete a Baseline Vetting Clearance, please note you may be required to upgrade your clearance to NV1 in the future.
