Primary Purpose:
- The Assistant Director of Community Engagement and Events is responsible for helping to direct engagement initiatives that create and foster effective community and school partnerships. This includes volunteer management, the Retired Seniors Valued in Plano program for community members age 65+, the district's Leadership and Ambassador Program and other educational partnership and engagement initiatives. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the production and logistics associated with Plano ISD's signature events, graduation ceremonies, school board meeting recognitions and other relevant events. The position works closely with volunteers and colleagues within the communications department and districtwide to produce high-level recognition events and programs that support the mission of the Plano Independent School District. Serving as the communications department liaison to the Plano ISD Education Foundation, the Assistant Director will support a community engagement plan designed to attract community and corporate partnerships and volunteer support. The candidate should have the necessary skills to manage events from planning to promotion to production; coach team members; and manage volunteers and committees
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably within the fields of hospitality and tourism management and/or communications
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Driving record that is insurable with Plano ISD's insurance carrier
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make effective public presentations
- Strong team building and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers
- Strong interpersonal and people skills with the ability to cultivate and maintain long-term relationships
- Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision and to a high degree of detail
- Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality
- Working knowledge of event management software
- General knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
Experience:
- A minimum of six years' experience conceptualizing, planning and implementing large events
- A minimum of five years' experience coordinating volunteers
- Experience with donor relations in an education, nonprofit or corporate setting
- Advanced computer skills in word processing, graphics, spreadsheets and data entry
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Coordinate details and strategies to increase corporate sponsorship and raise community awareness of Plano ISD's volunteer and partnership opportunities
Equipment Used:
- Includes (but not limited to): Computer (Windows OS), mobile devices, laser printers, copiers, digital camera, telephone, scanner, laminator and poster maker.

- Frequent sitting, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
