Summer Maintenance Worker

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years old
Prior maintenance, landscaping, or custodial experience preferred, but not required
Valid Driver's License required

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities, Maintenance Supervisor

SUPERVISES: N/A

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt 

PURPOSE: The Summer Maintenance Worker assists the Facilities Department with general maintenance and upkeep of school buildings and grounds during the summer months. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform groundskeeping tasks such as spreading mulch, trimming bushes and branches, weeding, and watering plants.
2. Assist with interior and exterior painting projects.
3. Conduct minor repairs, including replacing ceiling tiles, changing light bulbs, assembling furniture.
4. Move furniture and equipment as needed.
5. Clean and prepare classrooms and common areas for the upcoming school year.
6. Operate tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner.
7. Adhere to all district safety procedures and guidelines.
8. Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

• Knowledge of basic maintenance and landscaping practices
• Knowledge of safe operation of hand tools and equipment
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 90 pounds
• Ability to work safely and follow established procedures
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to adapt to changing tasks and priorities as assigned
• Ability to maintain a safe and organized work environment

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Temporary, part-time seasonal summer position. Work schedule and hourly wage to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Facilities in accordance with provisions of Board policy on evaluation of Educational Support Personnel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays. 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary: $15.00/Hour
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm
