The Prince George’s County Council is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Performance Auditor (Lead) (Auditor 3G, Grade G24) position in the Office of Audits and Investigations.  

About the Position
This is senior level lead professional audit and investigation work in the areas of performance, financial auditing and budget review. Incumbents perform complex auditing assignments in assigned functional areas. Work is performed under the general supervision of a senior Auditor, and assignments are reviewed for accuracy, completeness and adherence to generally accepted auditing principles, techniques and procedures.

About the Agency
All legislative powers of the County are vested in the County Council. In addition, the County Council sits as the District Council on zoning and land use matters, and as the Board of Health-on-health policy matters.
  • Performs complex audit assignments in assigned functional areas.
  • Prepares and assists in the preparation of audit reports.
  • Leads and coordinates subordinates.
  • Designs and prepares working papers which document the evidence collected and examined during the course of the audit.
  • Participates in conferences and hearings and makes suggestions regarding audit findings and recommendations.
  • Reviews and analyzes budget proposals
  • Assists in conducting programmatic reviews on sensitive issues specially requested by the County Council, assigned by the County Auditor or Audit Manager
  • Takes the lead in planning the review approach and coverage of the special projects, with limited guidance and instruction on the scope of the reviews.  
  • Collects and analyzes data, and prepares reports summarizing findings and conclusions, and setting forth recommendations about these special issues, as appropriate.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs such tasks and responsibilities which may not be specifically listed in the class specifications or position description, to include, but not limited to, assisting with budgetary review and conducting investigations of allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse reported to the office.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in auditing and/or accounting.
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
Highly qualified candidates may also demonstrate the preferred qualifications listed below:

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Eight (8) or more years of professional experience in auditing and/or accounting.

Conditions of Employment:  Upon selection, the candidate must:

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. This position is essential. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
