Your Impact
As Commercial Director, India based in our HQ in Mumbai, you will report to the Senior Director, Commercial Developments and work closely with various teams and leadership across the Asia Pacific region, making your mark in a number of ways:
- Provide strategic commercial leadership across India, enabling successful market entry, scaling, and delivery of hyperscale developments in a complex and evolving regulatory environment
- Establish strong contracting strategy, commercial and cost governance and risk frameworks tailored to local market dynamics, ensuring consistency with global standards while enabling speed and flexibility
- Build and lead a high-performing regional commercial function, partnering with Development, Delivery, Legal, Finance and external stakeholders to drive disciplined, predictable project outcomes
What you’ll do
- Lead commercial strategy for India, including market entry approaches, procurement models and contracting frameworks aligned to local regulatory, cultural, and supply chain conditions
- Act as the senior commercial advisor to Development and Project Directors, providing clear guidance on risk, cost, and contractual positions across all phases of development
- Establish and embed robust governance and approval frameworks, ensuring disciplined decision-making, auditability, and alignment with global AirTrunk standards
- Structure and negotiate complex, high-value contracts, including early works, D&C, consultant agreements, and strategic supplier arrangements in emerging and less mature contracting environments
- Lead resolution of complex commercial issues, disputes, and contract interpretation matters, balancing delivery outcomes with long-term strategic relationships
- Build and scale regional commercial capability, including hiring, coaching, and developing local teams and embedding consistent ways of working
- Partner with cross-functional leaders (Legal, Finance, Tax, Delivery) to navigate jurisdiction-specific risks including localisation requirements, tax structures, partner models, and regulatory approvals
- Drive cost and commercial performance across projects, including oversight of procurement strategies, budget alignment, and commercial outcomes in rapidly evolving markets
- Develop and implement fit-for-purpose processes, tools, and reporting frameworks to enable transparency, performance tracking, and continuous improvement across the region
- Support broader business strategy through input into investment decisions, business cases, and market-specific risk assessments
What you’ll bring
- Degree in Law, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering or similar
- 15-20+ years’ experience in commercial, contracts, or project delivery roles within large-scale construction or infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated experience operating in complex, emerging or international markets with evolving regulatory and commercial frameworks
- Deep expertise in contract strategy, negotiation, and risk management across large-scale capital projects
- Proven ability to lead, influence, and align senior stakeholders across multiple geographies and disciplines
- Strong leadership capability with experience building and scaling high-performing teams
Preferred:
- Experience in India market, including navigating local partnerships, supply chain constraints, and regulatory approvals
- Experience in hyperscale, data centre, or fast-track design and construct environments
- Postgraduate qualifications in law, business, or management
- Experience managing large-scale contracts (>USD $1bn equivalent)
