Job Summary:
This position is based out of Tampa, FL.We are seeking a qualified Able-Bodied Seamen (AB). The AB assists with the operation and maintenance of deck & cargo machinery, performs watch-standing & lookout duties while at sea, and performs tasks as assigned by Deck Officers. When transferring cargo, the Able-Bodied Seamen assist the Deck Officer by standing a cargo watch. The Able-Bodied Seamen report directly to the Chief Mate for cargo, maintenance, and safety-related duties, and the OICNW for navigational duties.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
USCG Merchant Mariner Credential with the following endorsements:
International and national endorsements capable of foreign voyages:
Able Seafarer-Deck (STCW II/5),
RFPNW (STCW II/4),
Basic Safety Training (BST) (STCW VI/1),
Proficiency in Survival Craft (PSC) (STCW VI/2),
Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD) (STCW VI/6)
National (Domestic) Endorsements:
Able Bodied Seaman Unlimited,
Lifeboatman
Tankerman Assistant limited to Dangerous Liquid (DL) Cargoes PIC endorsement is preferred
USCG STCW and National Medical Certificate
TWIC card
U. S. Passport
Job Responsibilities:
Assists the Chief Mate with inspection, testing, and maintenance of deck and cargo machinery
Assist as directed with the inspections, testing, and maintenance of all lifesaving and safety equipment
Participate in all required Fire, Emergency, Abandon ship and safety/security Training Drills and exercises
Obtain working knowledge of the Safety Management System and comply with all procedures outlined within as relating to the position
Maintain a fixed daily work rotation as per STCW Work Rest guidelines
Day for Day Rotation work schedule (avg. 35 day on/35 day off rotation)
Housekeeping, cooking, cleaning, and painting
Perform duties as directed by the Master and deck officers in a safe and efficient manner
Obtain intimate knowledge with ammonia related equipment and machinery
Stand navigation, cargo, and security watches
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma
Maritime Academy graduate preferred
Physical Requirements:
Physical Ability as required by the U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certification (Form CG-719K).
Able to work, lift and carry loads greater than 40 pounds, climbing and descending ladders.
