Survey Specialist (Field)
JOB SUMMARY:
This position will be filled with the Survey Specialist Family (Levels 03-05). This position is primarily responsible for (1) field land surveying activities; (2) operation, setup, care and use of assigned land surveying equipment including electronic equipment and accessories; (3) accurate collection of survey data, performing necessary data edits and preparation of the data for accurate mapping of each assigned project; (4) preparation and review of required land survey notes and documentation; (5) coordination of G.P.S. data gathering and processing; (6) communication and coordination with field crews, private land owners, corporations and government agencies; (7) research and document compilation for a variety of projects.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Education and Experience
- Alabama Professional Land Surveyor’s License or ability to obtain license (within 5 years) is required
- Extensive knowledge of survey calculations is required
- Experience in survey data collection and processing is highly preferred
- Experience in GPS data collection and processing is highly preferred
- Land Survey related CAD drafting is highly preferred
- Alabama Driver’s License (DOT Certification required upon employment)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of the operation, setup, care and use of surveying tools and equipment, including electronic equipment and accessories.
- Knowledge of surveying procedures for a variety of survey types
- Extensive knowledge of various land survey mathematical calculations
- Knowledge of field electronic data collection and processing
- Knowledge of proper GPS procedures, data acquisition and data processing
- Knowledgeable of Alabama’s “Standards of Practice” for surveying
- Knowledgeable of Alabama’s Public Land Survey System (U.S. System of Rectangular Surveys).
- Ability to research and understand land rights and legal documents
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
- Possess and demonstrate problem solving (trouble shooting) skills
- Necessary skills to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances while working on multiple tasks/projects and ability to be productive, decisive and efficient in periods of short time constraints and resource limitations.
- This position requires the successful applicant to perform demanding physical labor daily (walking long distances, manual cutting of brush, hand transporting land survey equipment and tools) in a variety of weather conditions (hot, cold, minor rainfall…) and upon uneven terrain (hillsides, marshes, thick woods.

- Working knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations.

The position will require 100% travel. The home location of the successful candidate will be the successful candidate’s location of residence. Relocation benefits are NOT available.
