Technology Business Partner

Locations: Mississippi-Coastal Area-Gulfport or Alabama-Metro Birmingham/Eastern AL-Birmingham (onsite 4 days/week)

Technology Business Partner 

This position is being posted to fill the Technology Business Partner position supporting Alabama Power Company and Mississippi Power Company.

The successful candidate for the position will have the option to select Gulfport or Birmingham as their main work location but will be required to travel between the two locations based on business needs.


JOB SUMMARY 

The Technology Business Partner (TBP) serves as a strategic interface with assigned operating company or business units for business technology strategy development, solution discovery, service management, risk management and relationship management. This employee serves as the business relationship liaison between business units and the technology organization at the executive level. The TBP communicates decisions, priorities and relevant project information to appropriate levels of staff about business unit requests, projects and initiatives, and financials. The ultimate responsibility of the TBP is to effectively partner with operating company or business unit leadership and other key stakeholders, including the technology organization, to define opportunities and identify and prioritize projects based on predefined criteria (e.g., return on investment, productivity, compliance).

The TBP proactively serves as a trusted adviser and is a key contact within the technology organization for operating company or business unit executives and managers. S/he operates as a key operating company or business unit contact for the technology organization’s services and capabilities. The TBP provides support in delivering technology products that meet the needs of the business. The TBP focuses on strategic initiatives and planning activities for an assigned operating company or business unit. This individual strives to understand market challenges, including cutover priorities and competitive issues. The TBP is proactive and anticipatory in his/her thinking. The TBP readies the TO organization for Storm Response and assist TO in resiliency initiatives. S/he takes a lead role in enabling the business to achieve objectives through the effective use of technology.

 

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Understand the high-level business and technology needs of the operating company or business unit. 
  • Collaborate with management to develop annual budgets for respective operating company or business unit. 
  • Facilitate the development of business cases and assist with prioritization. 
  • Foster the technology initiatives of the operating company or business unit. 
  • Support the operating company or business unit in technology-oriented initiatives and innovations. 
  • Partner and collaborate across the technology organization to communicate a shared vision for solutions that support the assigned business unit or operating company, facilitating decision making and arbitration related to trade-offs both within and between different solution platforms.
  • Create consensus with other functions as to the timing of new solution introductions and retirements of existing solutions.
  • Oversee the launch of solutions and help to maximize the positive impact on the organization.
  • Guide the operating company or business unit in navigating the technology organization. 
  • Identify, screen and evaluate new solution opportunities to address unmet (internal and external) customer needs.
  • Analyze appropriate technologies and ensure that customers have the solutions they need, when they need them, in the media best suited to their requirements.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to ensure solution compatibility. 
  • Participate in strategic, technology and budgetary planning processes.
  • Coordinates technology resources for storm and disaster duty.
  • Inform technology leadership of key operating company or business unit initiatives, issues, concerns and risk.
  • Ensure collaboration with the broader technology organization.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field. Advanced degree highly desirable.

Experience and Knowledge

  • 15 or more years of experience in IT, with at least seven years of experience managing multiple, medium-to-large- sized programs and initiatives. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of information technology.
  • Experience establishing and defining a comprehensive technology strategy and roadmap that meets the strategic and operational objectives of the business.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior-level management and key stakeholders and lead through influence.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach to drive solutions for the good of Southern Company.
  • Ability to operate successfully in a regulated environment with an understanding and appreciation of risk, compliance, corporate policy and procedures, internal controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect the dots and apply sound business judgement. 
  • Outstanding listening and communication skills, including the ability to communicate very complex technical topics to various audiences.
  • Excellent customer service skills that exhibit initiative and follow-through to meet customer commitments.
