AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

• Provide strategic and operational leadership to implement, monitor, and continuously improve the OHS Management System across Underground Operations, ensuring compliance with AGAG standards, L.I. 2182 (2012), and ISO 45001.
• Support the rolling (4-3-2-1) quarterly safety plan and annual budget, align safety deliverables with production and project schedules, and drive performance against site priorities.
• Lead significant incident investigations and audits, strengthen contractor safety and operational readiness, and coach Safety Officers and supervisors to build a high-performance safety culture.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Lead critical control reviews, inspections, hazard observations, and Planned Task Observations to verify effective risk controls.
• Ensure timely incident reporting, investigation, and closure of corrective actions in line with the AGA IIP module.
• Support development and execution of the rolling (4-3-2-1) quarterly safety plan aligned with operational objectives and schedules.
• Provide technical safety leadership, promote Visible Felt Leadership, and support risk and critical control processes.
• Monitor leading and lagging indicators, analyze trends, and drive continuous improvement in safety culture and performance.
• Coach and supervise Safety Officers, coordinate contractor safety management, and ensure operational readiness across Underground activities.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences or similar qualification from a recognised institution.
• ISO 45001 internal or lead auditor certification.
• Certification in incident investigation methodologies such as IIP or Taproot.
• Health and Safety Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana is an advantage.

Experience

• 5 to 8 years’ working experience in the mining industry.
• Experience in construction safety, green and brownfields projects, and project management.
• Experience applying health and safety principles in processing plants, Underground infrastructure, basic underground engineering, and maintenance workshops.

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of L.I. 2182 (2012) and associated regulations and ISO 45001.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid Ghanaian driving licence and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles underground.
