Position Summary
The Math Teacher for grades 3 and 4 is responsible for providing rigorous, developmentally appropriate mathematics instruction rooted in a Catholic worldview. The teacher fosters a classroom environment where students grow in mathematical thinking, problem-solving skills, and personal responsibility while integrating the values of the Gospel and the mission of the school.
Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging daily math lessons aligned with school standards, curriculum maps, and Catholic educational philosophy.
- Teach core math concepts including number sense, operations, fractions, measurement, geometry, and introductory multi-step problem solving.
- Integrate hands-on learning, manipulatives, math discourse, and real-world applications.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including those needing remediation, enrichment, or accommodations.
- Use assessments (formative and summative) to guide instruction and provide timely feedback to students and families.
Classroom Environment
- Create a safe, organized, and supportive classroom rooted in Catholic virtues and character formation.
- Establish clear expectations for behavior and routines that promote responsibility, respect, and a growth mindset.
- Model and foster perseverance, curiosity, and joy in learning mathematics.
Faith & Mission Integration
- Support and uphold the mission, values, and traditions of the Catholic Church and the school.
- Incorporate virtues, prayer, and Catholic identity appropriately into classroom culture.
- Serve as a witness of faith through personal conduct, professionalism, and interactions with students and families.
Professional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with faculty, support staff, and administrators to strengthen vertical alignment of the math program.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and required training.
- Maintain accurate records for grading, attendance, and progress monitoring.
- Utilize technology platforms as directed by the school (e.g., gradebook, educational software, assessment tools).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; degree in Elementary Education or Mathematics preferred.
- Valid teaching certification (or ability to obtain one within required timeframe).
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students preferred.
- Commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and willingness to support the school's Catholic identity.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to create engaging lessons and use varied instructional strategies.
