This Opportunity

In this role, the Quality Engineering Intern supports the Quality team by applying fundamental engineering concepts and problem-solving tools to assigned projects. This hands-on role involves assisting with daily quality related activities, learning relevant regulations (ISO, GMP), and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability and process efficiency. This role exists to provide foundational engineering experience while supporting the department with essential technical tasks.

Internship Details

  • Duration: Up to 10-12 weeks (Summer) or semester‑long (Fall/Spring)
  • Schedule: Full‑time during summer; part‑time options available during the academic year
  • Eligibility: Rising juniors and seniors; completion of sophomore year preferred
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on academic level and experience; $25.00/hour for undergraduate-level students
  • Location: On‑site at our facility in Mahwah, New Jersey

What You’ll Do

  • Support engineering staff with data collection, process observations, and basic analysis for assigned production lines.
  • Assist in drafting, updating, and organizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze quality data (i.e. in MS Excel/Minitab) to identify trends and report on metrics.
  • Assist engineers with incoming quality inspection, including material characterization testing.
  • Participate in Kaizen, Lean, and continuous improvement workshops as a contributing team member.
  • Assist engineers in auditing manufacturing Work Instructions (WI) against current practices, and identify gaps in documentation
  • Support engineers in the reviewing quality issues related to non-conformances, customer complaints, product performance, etc.
  • Provide support for, or participate in, process improvement activities, including root cause analysis (PCA), Problem Solving Process (PSP), and CAPA (Corrective and Preventative Action) activities
  • Support cross-functional teams—including Engineering, Production, and Logistics—by providing quality-related documentation, data, or logistics as needed.
  • Participate in assigned quality engineering initiatives that may involve data analysis and reporting, process improvement, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and material inspection projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification of a rising junior or senior currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related Engineering field
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, engineering principles, and problem‑solving methodologies

Technical Skills

  • Ability to collect, organize, and interpret data
  • Foundational knowledge of statistical concepts and process analysis tools (coursework acceptable)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with CAD or CAM tools is a plus

Preferred Experience

  • Prior internship or project experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Exposure to regulated industries such as medical device, aerospace, or automotive

Actual compensation packages take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location; skill sets; relevant education and certifications; depth of experience; performance; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed reasonable estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  At Envista, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, medical/dental/vision benefits, 401K match, and/or other applicable compensation plans.
