Job Description

Join our global team for a career filled with opportunities to solve challenges both small and large, local and global, simple and complex.

About Wilhelmsen Ship Management

At Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM), we don’t just manage vessels — we keep global trade moving safely and efficiently. With a strong international presence and a modern fleet under management, we combine deep maritime expertise with a forward-looking, people-first culture.

If you’re looking for a role where you can take real ownership, influence operations, and work alongside experienced maritime professionals, this is an opportunity worth exploring.

Who you’ll report to

You’ll report directly to the General Manager and work closely with Fleet Managers, technical teams, and docking/project specialists.

What you’ll be doing

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll take full technical ownership of a fleet of 3–5 VLOC vessels.

  • Lead the technical management and performance of your assigned vessels

  • Ensure safe, compliant, and cost-efficient operations at all times

  • Oversee maintenance, repairs, and docking projects

  • Work closely with shipboard teams, supporting and guiding them when needed

  • Manage budgets, procurement approvals, and technical decisions

  • Drive incident prevention, investigation, and continuous improvement

  • Build strong relationships with owners, class, and key stakeholders

What sets you up for success

  • Confidence in managing vessels end-to-end and making critical decisions

  • Ability to balance operational demands, safety, and cost control

  • Strong stakeholder management across shipboard and shore-based teams

  • A proactive mindset focused on prevention, not just resolution

  • Ability to act as a trusted technical expert for your fleet

What we’re looking for

  • Sailing experience as a Chief Engineer on VLOC vessels, or shore-based experience as a Vessel Manager handling VLOCs

  • Strong understanding of maritime regulations and compliance (ISM, ISO, etc.)

  • Good command of written and spoken English

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • A collaborative and solutions-oriented approach

  • Familiarity with systems like BASSnet is an advantage
