Description of Work

You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.Position will serve as the District 1 Senior Assistant District Engineer located in the Asheboro District Engineer’s Office. Position will work throughout the counties of Randolph, Chatham, and Montgomery. Position will be responsible for the review and oversight of complex developments, encroachments, driveway permits and subdivisions. Position acts as the lead for department by coordinating the reviews and is the point person for developers, engineers, and government entities to contact concerning complex driveway permits, encroachments, and small price development such as High Impact Low Cost, Spot Safety, etc. Position will assist the District Engineer with over dimension permits, addition and abandonment of right of way, and review of TIA’s. Position will serve as supervisor in the absence of the District Engineer; attend numerous meetings with developers, engineers, and government agencies on high profile developments throughout the District. Represent the Department on technical issues and advise the parties involved on the policies and specifications. Also provides engineering support for one assistant district engineer, 2 – 3 technicians, and other duties as assigned. Position may be required to attend public meetings outside of normal business hours and work nights/weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations. Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle. Safety toe footwear required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC18 $63,927 - $111,871
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Experience reviewing project plans and specifications for compliance with established practices and principles of Engineering (i.e. - Spot Safety, locally managed projects, subdivisions, right of way encroachments and driveway permit applications)
Experience in the supervision, direction, management and training of lower-level employees and/or contract engineering personnel to achieve established project delivery metrics
Demonstrated ability in planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
Demonstrated ability in communicating in written and verbal form, establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and Customer Service experience related to resolving problems
Experience in Microsoft office, Outlook, and use of GIS software
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements - May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
