JOB TITLE: Vine Street Market- Seasonal Staff
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation – Vine Street Market
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
HOURLY RATE: $17.00
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Vine Street Market is seeking multiple individuals to assist with the market on Saturday mornings. Interested candidates must be hard working, outgoing, friendly, self-motivated, enjoy communicating with the public, comfortable around children, and have a positive attitude. This is a great position for someone interested in being involved in the community and who wants to educate children through agriculture-based activities and support small businesses and local agriculture.
ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
Administer Power of Produce (POP) Club children’s activities during the market.
Administer SNAP (food stamps) and LINK vouchers to market visitors.
Run a POS system for market merchandise purchases.
Ensure a welcoming atmosphere for customers and vendors at the Vine Street Market by answering questions, offering friendly customer service, and addressing concerns.
Assist with janitorial responsibilities associated with the Vine Street Market. These include, but are not limited to: taking out trash, mopping, sweeping, disinfecting, cleaning, restocking restrooms, cleaning windows, etc.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILTIES
Desire to teach and assist children with weekly activities about agriculture, local food, and farmers’ markets.
Interest in being involved in the O’Fallon community.
Must have a positive attitude, hard work ethic, and team player spirit.
Ability to remain professional in stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Integrity, honesty, reliability, trustworthiness, and enthusiasm are crucial to this position.
Ability to be detail oriented and tidy.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Able to bend, kneel, shuffle, push, and lift and pull at least 50 pounds of product.
Ability to stand for long periods of time and walk long distances.
Ability to repeatedly climb stairs while carrying items.
Ability to withstand unfavorable weather conditions such as rain and heat.
MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS AND BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be 18 years or older.
Must operate with a high level of communication skills and be able to follow instruction.
Must be willing to work with children.
Must be available a minimum of:
Three Saturdays per month from 5:30a-2:00p May through October.
The second Saturday in December for holiday market.
The third Saturday in November for Thanksgiving market.
Up to 8 hours of additional training outside of the previously mentioned times will be required.
Biweekly Saturdays in March and April will require staffing but with fewer people; availability during these times is beneficial for training.
Must be willing to be trained in driving a pickup truck and utility vehicle.
