Job Description

About the Company

Thomson Reuters Tax & Accounting is the leading provider of technology and information solutions for tax, accounting, and compliance professionals worldwide. Our flagship product, ONESOURCE Indirect Tax, is a global tax compliance software solution used by corporations, accounting firms, law firms, and governments across more than 75 countries.

You will join the Global Compliance and Reporting team — a diverse, international group spanning the UK, US, Poland, France, Spain, Taiwan and India — working at the forefront of indirect tax technology.

About the Role

You will be working at the intersection of indirect tax compliance and digital transformation, at a time when tax authorities across Europe and beyond are rapidly implementing real-time reporting, e-invoicing mandates, and SAF-T obligations. This is a high-visibility, technically demanding role that combines deep VAT expertise with a genuine passion for technology.

VAT Compliance & Tax Content

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and quality review of VAT/GST tax templates and compliance content across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Conduct in-depth VAT/GST research, including analysis of legislation, tax authority guidance and case law, with a focus on compliance obligations and reporting requirements.
  • Support implementation teams and respond to client queries relating to indirect tax compliance.
  • Design new functionalities or enhancements to the ONESOURCE Indirect Tax product based on customer needs and regulatory changes.
  • Review and test tax templates to ensure they meet requirements and are built in accordance with best practices.
  • Act as an SME regarding the reconciliation of data between VAT return and e-invoicing data

Digital Reporting

  • Lead the development and maintenance of digital reporting functionality in ONESOURCE Indirect Tax, including SAF-T implementations.
  • Gather, analyse, and interpret digital reporting requirements published by tax authorities and stay up to date with emerging trends to inform strategic product decisions.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications and client documentation related to digital reporting outputs.
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert and point of contact for all digital reporting-related queries.

Technology & Automation

  • Work with XML schemas and structured data formats to validate, interpret, and specify digital reporting outputs.
  • Use and maintain automation tools to support testing, data validation, and internal processes.
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g. Microsoft Copilot, Claude AI, or similar) to improve efficiency in tax research, requirement drafting, test data creation, and documentation.
  • Help design realistic test datasets and scenarios to validate compliance outputs end-to-end.
  • Partner with the platform development team to implement changes in the software, bridging the gap between tax requirements and technical implementation.

About You

You are someone who sits comfortably at the intersection of tax and technology. You don’t wait for regulations to land — you follow legislative developments proactively. You are curious about how AI and automation can make tax processes smarter, and you’re not afraid to use a macro, parse an XML file, or challenge how things have always been done.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Solid hands-on experience (5+ years) in indirect tax compliance, ideally covering VAT return preparation, reconciliation, and multi-country compliance.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of digital reporting frameworks such as SAF-T (OECD standard and country-specific implementations), SII, JPK, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with e-invoicing mandates and standards (EU ViDA, PEPPOL, UBL, CII) and the legislative landscape driving their adoption.
  • Comfortable working with XML files and schemas — able to read, interpret, and validate structured data without requiring developer support.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g.Copilot, Claude AI, Gemini, or similar) to support daily work — research, drafting, analysis, or automation.
  • Proven ability to lead IT/tax-related projects and manage delivery across stakeholders.
  • Experience communicating complex requirements to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

Education & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level, preferably in a numerical discipline (Economics, Accounting, Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related).
  • Tax or accounting qualification (CTA, ATT, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) is a plus.
  • Project management qualification or proven expertise is a plus.

Personal Attributes

  • Organised and methodical, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive and self-directed, with the ability to work independently across global time zones.
  • Intellectually curious, with a genuine interest in how technology is reshaping indirect tax compliance.
  • Knowledge of one or more European languages is an advantage given the multi-jurisdictional scope of the role.
