Job Summary
The Medical Assistant at Orthopaedic Associates supports orthopedic providers by delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring smooth clinical operations. This role involves direct patient interaction, assisting with procedures, managing documentation, and coordinating durable medical equipment (DME) services. The Medical Assistant helps optimize clinic efficiency and contributes to a positive patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical history, and medication lists
- Assist orthopedic providers with injections, casting, splinting, and minor procedures
- Dispense and fit braces and other DME items according to provider orders
- Verify patient authorizations in chart and signed consents for DME and Visco supplementation
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness and proper supplies
- Document patient encounters accurately in the EMR system
- Coordinate imaging, referrals, and follow-up appointments as directed by providers
- Train new hires
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of orthopedic terminology and procedures preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR); Athenahealth preferred
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Education & Experience
- EMT, Athletic Trainer, or Certified Medical Assistant preferred, will train the right candidate.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical or orthopedic setting preferred
- Human relation skills to deal effectively with patients in the clinic.
- Strong EMR skills – Athena preferred.
- BLS/CPR required, TB Test up to date
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Sitting, standing, bending and walking for a considerable amount of time.
- Extensive pulling, pushing, bending and lifting greater than 50 pounds.
- Travel to satellite offices – must have transportation.
- May need to come in early or stay late if provider has busy clinic.
