Position Summary
Assess needs, plans, organizes, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the Infection Control and Employee Health Programs. Interprets policies, sets objectives, advises and counsels supervisory and non-supervisory personnel with regard to Infection Control and Employee Health. Conducts liaison with local, state and federal health departments and community agencies.
Essential Functions
-Plans for a hospital-wide infection control program designed to assure a safe environment from an infection control standpoint.
-Coordinates infection control activities throughout the hospital.
-Provides education and serves as resource person for/assists all departments, medical staff in infection control matters.
-Promotes consistency in infection control activities on a hospital-wide basis and minimizes duplication of efforts.
-Reviews culture reports and other appropriate data to determine infections/ trends and for identification of nosocomial infections.
-Collects and analyzes data which can be utilized in identifying and minimizing potential or actual infections.
-Develops policies and procedures as related to infection control matters utilizing CDC guidelines and other national standards as guides.
-Gathers, reviews, and reports data to the CDC per federal guidelines.
-Periodically rounds nursing units and other departments and observes for compliance with infection control policies, procedures, and practices.
-Prepares reports regarding infection control activities for appropriate committees, attend meetings, and present reports.
-Reports communicable and/or other reportable diseases to the Texas Department of Health as required.
-Plans for a hospital-wide employee health program designed to protect patients and employees.
-Collects data for and identifies trends for potential or actual infections in employees.
-Verifies pre-placement evaluations of employee applicants and maintains employee health profiles.
-Performs employee health testing as indicated/appropriate and conducts exposure control program for employees and medical staff.
-Reviews the employee drug testing program.
-Advises Quality Management Director regularly regarding infection control and employee health matters.
-Assists in processes to assure compliance with TJC standards.
-Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives.
-Is available for phone and/or in person consultation after hours as needed.
-Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
-Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure.
-Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience
-Three years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred.
-One year in a nursing supervisory role preferred.
Education
-Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
-Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas required.
-Basic infection control training and CIC certification within three years required.
-BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 30 days of hire date.
