Job Description

As a core engine powering the GCS business and its colleagues, the Commercial Onboarding Services (COS) team plays a critical role in delivering best-in-class, revenue-enabling services and capabilities across the customer lifecycle. 

Within COS, the Client Solutioning team brings strategic focus to the early and most critical stages of the sales and account development lifecycle—supporting both prospective and existing customers through specialized content, streamlined services, and high-touch solutioning. 

The Manager, Proposal Strategy/Bid Management is a seasoned professional who provides consultative partnership to GCS Sales and Client Management. This role leads the development of high-impact Request for Proposal (RFP) responses and client presentations across the lifecycle (acquisition, expansion, cross-sell, and retention). 

This position is responsible for shaping and executing winning proposal strategies that clearly articulate GCS value and competitive differentiation. The role requires strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate moderately complex, variable situations by balancing multiple inputs and priorities. 

The Manager regularly demonstrates leadership within project teams, contributes to coaching and onboarding new colleagues, and operates with a high degree of collaboration and influence. This is a non-client-facing role reporting to the Proposals & Custom Content Enablement Director (U.S.-based) and working Pacific business hours year around.

  • Partner with Sales and Client Management to develop compelling, client-centric proposals and presentations for Large Market and Global clients.
  • Lead the end-to-end RFP process—from strategy and planning through content development and final delivery.
  • Translate complex client needs into clear, differentiated value propositions and messaging.
  • Manage multiple proposal timelines and stakeholders, ensuring high-quality deliverables and on-time execution.
  • Collaborate across global, cross-functional teams and time zones.
  • Leverage American Express products, insights, and value propositions to create winning strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and proposal standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, tools, and content to drive greater efficiency and impact.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to connect client needs to business solutions.
  • Exceptional written and visual communication skills, including experience creating polished, client-ready materials.
  • Experience supporting B2B sales processes, including RFPs (bids/tenders) and Best and Final presentations.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence and partner across teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of bid/RFP experience, preferably within the commercial payments industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to think innovatively and operate effectively in a highly matrixed, global environment.
  • Knowledge of the competitive landscape and corporate marketplace.
  • Experience/understanding with AI for Bid Management usage and RFP collaboration tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

 

Work Arrangement: This role may be filled as either virtual or hybrid, depending on the selected candidate’s location and business needs. Candidates who live within commuting distance of a company office may be designated as hybrid and generally will be expected to work from the office three days per week. Candidates who do not live within commuting distance of a company office may be eligible for a virtual work arrangement, subject to company policy, business needs, and applicable law. Final work arrangement will be confirmed during the hiring process.
