Maine Township High School District 207 announces a vacancy for a  School Registered Nurse at Maine Township High School District 207 beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.  

 

SUMMARY

District 207 is looking for a professional school registered nurse.  The candidate will work under the direct supervision of the certified school nurse to facilitate health care for students. The school registered nurse provides health-related support services to students and staff under the supervision of a Certified School Nurse and in accordance with district policies and state health guidelines. This position plays a key role in promoting student wellness, supporting the management of chronic health conditions, administering basic first aid, and assisting in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment.

  • Associate Principal of Student and Family Services

 

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Associate Principal of Student and Family Services in accordance with District 207's support staff evaluation procedures and aligned to district priorities.

 

SUPERVISES

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities. May provide coordination or direction to interns, vendors, and student media teams as assigned.

 

CERTIFICATIONS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current registration in the state of Illinois as a registered professional nurse;
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in a health-related field preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification required.
  • First Aid certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic health care practices, emergency response, and student wellness.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, and assist with office and health room operations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively under the supervision of a Certified School Nurse.
  • Patience, compassion, and the ability to respond calmly in stressful or emergency situations.
    Familiarity with basic assessment skills, including vision, hearing, and vital signs monitoring, preferred.

 

DUTIES AND  RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Health Care and Support

  • Work under the direct supervision of the Certified School Nurse to provide health care services to students.
  • Re-admit students who have been absent three (3) or more days and facilitate/implement any special measures needed to support their transition back to school, including extended time passes, physical education excuses, medical limitation forms, elevator keys, or special memos to teachers.
  • Screen students' physical complaints and follow through with appropriate interventions, including educating students about their health concerns, discussing issues with parents, and facilitating dismissal to home or a medical facility when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the school social worker to assess physical symptoms resulting from physical or sexual abuse.
  • Work with the school social worker to assess physical conditions that may present stressful situations for students.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to support students with disabilities who have medical needs.

 

Medication and Treatment Administration

  • Administer and accurately record prescribed medications given to students.
  • Assist in maintaining the inventory of health office supplies to ensure readiness and proper stock levels.
  • Perform basic first aid and emergency interventions, including CPR as required.

 

Documentation and Communication

  • Maintain ongoing daily communication with the Certified School Nurse regarding student health concerns and office activities.
  • Write daily nursing notes documenting all services, interventions, and communications regarding assisted students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and other healthcare professionals to support student health and well-being.

 

Health Assessment and Counseling Skills

  • Perform health assessments, including vision and hearing screenings.
  • Provide health counseling and guidance to students regarding personal care, hygiene, and wellness.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills to educate and support students and families regarding health matters.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Certified School Nurse and Administration.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Environment:
    Work is performed primarily in a school health office or a similar setting. The Non-Certified School Nurse may occasionally be exposed to bodily fluids and communicable diseases while providing care to students. The role requires the ability to accept work interruptions in a considerate and helpful manner, as the health office is often a dynamic environment responding to urgent student needs.
  • Physical Requirements:
    This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the school day. The Non-Certified School Nurse must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and assist students with mobility when necessary. Adequate visual and auditory acuity is essential to observe students, identify health concerns, and respond appropriately to medical situations.
  • Flexibility & Availability:
    Flexibility in scheduling is necessary to support the evolving needs of the school, including emergencies that may arise unexpectedly. The Non-Certified School Nurse must be prepared to adjust priorities and respond quickly to urgent health situations as they occur.
  • Professional Commitment:
    This role requires a high level of professional commitment, including the ability to respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies. The Non-Certified School Nurse must demonstrate composure, attention to detail, and consistent adherence to health and safety protocols while serving students and staff.

SALARY & BENEFITS  

  • 10-month (195 paid days) - Start Date tbd
  • Total Number of Paid Hours/Day: 7.75
  • Total Number of Paid Hours: 1,511.25
  • Hourly Rate: $30.13 - $53.14
  • Approximately $45,540.60 - $80,319.65  (prorated first year based on start date)
  • IMRF pension - employees vested after 10 years of employment

  • Paid term life insurance policy equal to annual base salary
