Registered Nurse - Primary Care and Multispecialty Ambulatory Clinic
Job Description
Guided by the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services Administration, and in collaboration with providers and other clinical staff, the Clinical Nurse II is responsible for providing safe, efficient nursing care to patients in an out-patient practice. Triages patients and responds appropriately according to protocol and nursing assessment. The Clinical Nurse II utilizes the nursing process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation) to provide safe and therapeutic clinical care. The Clinical Nurse II also provides clinical support to providers and participates as part of the health care team to assure coordination and continuity of patient care. The Clinical Nurse II is responsible for triage on behalf of the practice both in person and through telephone and electronic communication. S/he participates in the development and implementation of educational programs and materials for patients and their family members. S/he delivers direct patient care to a variety of patient populations. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient’s physiological and psychosocial development. The Clinical Nurse II will play a critical role in the patient experience including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient centered environment. S/he participates in Performance Improvement (PI) activities. S/he is required to learn and apply the Patient Centered Medical Home Standards and to maintain a safe environment for patients. The Clinical Nurse II consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor, helps establish and maintain the highest service standards for the practice and complies with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards. This employee will utilize computer skills in APeX and other UCSF computerized programs. This individual supports the standards of the policies and procedures of the practice and is responsible for maintaining current knowledge of pharmacology and competency in modes of administration, and complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and administrative and clinical practice. S/he is required to adhere to UCSF’s PRIDE values and the AIDET fundamentals of communication in all patient care and stakeholder interactions.
The Clinical Nurse II must have flexibility to cover multiple UCSF medical center primary care and multispecialty clinic sites.
Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in an outpatient setting and/or emergency room as a registered nurse. Or combined experience in both settings.
- Minimum of one (1) year recent experience as a registered nurse in an ambulatory practice or ER within the past 3 years.
- Minimum of one (1) year registered nurse experience working with both adult and pediatric patient populations.
- Triage experience as a registered nurse
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Nursing Degree from an accredited nursing school and/or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an outpatient Primary Care setting
- Ability to work competently and efficiently with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel & Work
- Pediatric phlebotomy experience
Licensure/Certifications:
- Registered Nurse as defined by California Board of Registered Nursing
- Current CA Nursing license
- Current American Heart Association CPR Certification.
