Job Description

Job Requirements

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Obstetrics and Women’s Health provides comprehensive obstetric and women’s health care in collaboration with obstetricians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The APP supports the delivery of safe, patient-centered care across the perinatal continuum including prenatal care, labor and delivery services, postpartum care, and inpatient obstetric evaluation.

APPs within the obstetrics service may function in distinct operational roles depending on credentialing and departmental staffing needs, including:

  • Certified Nurse Midwife (Labor Management and Delivery)
  • Labor and Delivery Triage APP

Certified Nurse Midwives who are appropriately trained, credentialed, and privileged may independently manage active labor, perform vaginal deliveries, and provide postpartum care consistent with ACNM standards and institutional practice agreements.

APPs functioning in the Labor and Delivery Triage role perform evaluation and management of patients presenting to Labor and Delivery for obstetric assessment, including evaluation of labor symptoms, pregnancy-related complaints, and urgent obstetric concerns.

While Certified Nurse Midwives may perform the triage role, only APPs credentialed and privileged for intrapartum management may independently manage active labor and perform vaginal deliveries.

All APPs practice within the scope of professional licensure, national certification, institutional credentialing, and delineation of privileges in accordance with applicable state regulations, hospital policies, and collaborative practice agreements.

The Labor and Delivery service operates under a 24-hour, 7-day-per-week staffing model, and APPs participate in scheduled shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as determined by departmental staffing needs.
